After many many hours of trying to get my PS3 back online, and pulling nearly half of my hair out I finally figured it out! I was getting the "Could not connect.." and "You have been disconned.." errors.

I have a Linksys WRT54GS router and my PS3 has a wireless connection. Basically my laptop was interfering with my PS3, the IPs were conflicting and the laptop was taking priority.

Here's what I did:

Go to http://portforward.com and select your router and choose Playstation Network as your game. At the top it will tell you not to go any further unless you have a static IP, click that link and follow the instructions to create a static IP. I made mine 192.168.1.110. You have to get the DNS numbers right, as you will be using them again in Network Settings.

Once you have created a static IP, go on your PS3 and choose Network Connection Settings. Do a custom setup and now put in an IP address other than the static IP you created, I used .109. (make sure it doesn't match any of the wireless devices in your house) Fill out your gateway and DNS, etc. and continue.

Your PS3 should now connect to the internet, if it doesn't, make sure your DNS is correct.

Other things to try:

Turn off UPnP

If you are having problems doing this send me an e-mail dantherien23@hotmail.com and I will do my best to help you.

I got the very same router and used to get lots of error messages similar to those you've experienced. So i re-set my router wireless to run on channel 6 instead of default 11,and set up wpa2 personnal security, ran automatic cd set up and didn't touch any other settings ,also downloaded latest firmware from Linksys site, and haven't had a problem since.
