Or at least I think it's new. I've searched and searched for a solution to this, but I can't find one, and I haven't found anyone with the symptoms my ps3 gets. I've had it since last summer, and everything has worked good and dandy until recently. I hadn't played it for a while and when I booted it up, I hear the start up music, my controller works, but it's just a blank screen, I can slightly see red playstation 3 letters flash across the screen. I tried holding down the power button but that didn't work. Upon further investigation, I found if I navigated through the menu (which i cannot see), i hear the "tink" the system makes when you navigate through it. If I insert a game, i hear the game start up but see nothing. Any ideas?Drewbert33
Try messing with the video cables.
im telling you, ive pushed them in, they're pefectly aligned and all the way in.Drewbert33
ye man that happened to me. but i keep it on the DL before 360 fanboys go all see you have problems too
know what i mean ?
nothing i did fixed it so i had to return it an use my warrenty good thing i bought it
I have the same exact problem. The first time it happened i was playing Resistance the Fall of Man. I noticed the screen flickering first. Then the screen went black with diagonal lines moving across it. The sound was still good. I am not connected through HDMI.
And a week later this also happened while i was playing COD4.
Is this a defect in the PS3 unit? Or is it becuase I am using a standard TV?
There's always a "something" of death now eh? Do you know why we call it RROD? because it's a red ring that kills 360's FREQUENTLY! Just because your PS3 gets messed up once or a few others do which is bound to happen to every system doesn't make it a problem of death all of a sudden.G-LegendHe's right people are over playing it a bit. But it sounds like your cables or your video card. I am not sure but I think you can try the old AV cables from the PS2 or the PS1 and see if it works, because I am allmost 100% sure its the same cord.
Try this, make sure your PS3 is turned on but it's off and have red lights, then hold the power button for like 5 seconds until it beeps, it should reset your cable signal. Try it.
I think that you have a bad cable I had a problem a while back and found that the HDMI was slightly pulled out on one corner and afther pushing it back into the socket firmly everything has been perfect. If you using component cables then the Sony brand seem to work much better and they cost about the same as the cheap cables on the market. jimm895Help me hav exact same prob
oh and i cant acses safe mode i try reseting it but it dose not pop up i tried
1. Resettin (powerbutton)
2. Took out hardrive
3. check all wire (i have yellow and white cable.
I had the same problem but fixed it.
Here's what you do: alright so the light is red, hold the button and you'll hear a beep, keep holding it and you'll hear another beep. Then, keep holding and you'll hear a double beep. Right after you've heard that quickly remove your finger. DO NOT remove your finger until the double beep has finished.
That should bring you into safe mode where it gives you 4 or 5 options. The 3rd option worked for me, and after that it brought me to the setup screen that you had when you first got your PS3. Fill in everything and it should bring you back to where you were before the problem, even with all your downloads.
Good luck!
Get on "standby,"(red light) push the on/standby button until you hear a 3-beep chime. That resets the audio/video setting to standard.BranKetrahad the same problem and what BranKetra said should fix it
if it is tv than how fix itWow people are ignorant, if you can hear sounds , you can access XMB, and the game is still running, it's obvious a TV or cable issue.
Yeah let's blame every electronic malfuntion on the console!
Gxgear
HDMI - single cable - is about 20-30$ around there supports all resolutions 720p 1080i 1080p
AV component - 5 cables (red, green, blue, white, red) - supports up to 1080i resolution (not sure about 1080p but i can go test it if you need) costs about 10$ (theres also a official one made by sony for the ps3)
Try unplugging your PS3 from your TV and unplugging the TV and PS3's power from the wall/outlet. Replug everything and see if it works.
edit: I don't know if this helps, but this will probably only work for people who are using HDMI cables. If you're using RCA or Component cables, it's most likely a TV or Cable problem.
