[QUOTE="Texas2089"] Just because the story may be more complex, doesn't mean it will be any less "emotionally gripping". A more complex story just takes a more mature audience to fully understand and fully connect with it.Rakuho
Yes, but complexity is often a weakness if it's not done right. I don't claim to know the outcome of FFXIII's story in terms of quality, but my guess is that it's complexity will do it more harm than good.
And if the poster earlier was referring to me about liking Versus more than XIII, than your mistaken. How can I like or be excited about a game that has virtually no info out on it yet?
this potentially flawed complexity that you speak of is nothing but conjecture on your part, and yet, you're already pessimistic about the story's success (i'm not talking about quality of characters or dialogue, but the overall story). While i, like you, am doubtful that FF13 will be able to match FF10 magic (i wouldn't go as far as calling people delusional who think that magic will be duplicated; at least not until i've actually played the game), but it would be too soon for me to dismiss FF13's story simply based on the trailers that we've seen.
I completely agree with you that complexity might do a story more harm that benefit, but i think its a little early to mention the potential pitfalls of complexity as for all we know the game will be fairly straightforward, accompanied by some twists here and there.
I mean, it would be realistic to assume that this game won't live up to the hype simply based on SE's underachieving track record in the last couple of years (some would even argue that SE has been an underachiever since its formation) -i know that wasn't your initial assumption; this is just me relaying my fears- but even that doesn't guarantee that this game will not be a great success (in terms of story, characters, etc.)
Anyone saying that they're getting the FFX vibe from XIII simply based on pockets of scarce info and a few trailers is definitely delusional or just extremely optimistic. And I have every right to be skeptical, especially because of SE's track record which you pointed out.
I didn't mean to come off arrogant, it just makes me mad that almost everyone it seems is fawning over FFXIII when there is virtually no information on it besides what I've already mentioned.
Don't get me wrong though, I hope that I'm wrong about FFXIII. I would love another FFX experience. I've yet to come across a game since FFX that has impacted me as much. But until I play it, I will remain the FFXIII skeptic that I am. That way, it'll make it even better if I'm wrong:P.
Thankfully, no matter how it turns out, at least I know the score will be amazing. I love Masashi Hamauzu.
