Don't see that possible since Ed Boon said Armeged. was the last one. If there was a new one i'd be suprised o.0

No he said it was the last of the last generation of MK games. He had said that they wanted to do something next-gen with the next-gen (current-gen) systems. We'll see. I'd expect to hear something this year.

heard that they're starting the next MK from scratch. ie: new engine and characters. Cuz armageedon was the final for all the reg characters.

Prepare to be surprised :o The only thing that surprises me is that anyone actually believed Ed B when he said that Armeged was the last game in the franchise.
All new characters would hurt the game with us who have been with the game since the start, i mean without: Subzero, scorpion, Raiden, Lui Kang, Johnny Cage, Kano, Sonya, its not Mortal KombatPrince_DenspionSome of the old characters will return, but not many from the sounds of things.
Plus they could add older characters in through online updates and whatnot.
I also wish they'd go back to what made the series great in the first place. All of the PS2-era MK games have been boring and no fun to play, IMO. Playing a first version of MK3 on day 1 in the arcade when I was 15 in 1995, when the characters had no moves and everyone just punched each other was more fun than any of the new MK's, Shaolin Monks excluded.
I think it is good that they are ditching all of the old characters and such. I liked most of the mortal kombat except deadly alliance and armageddon. I think it is time to drop a lot of the older series or create totally new universes based around the old games. I think that todays games rely too much on the name and less on the actual development. Fighting games are the worst culprit when it comes to rehashes expansions and copycats. I mean just think back to the 90's of all the ripoffs of street fighter we had. Mortal Kombat. Fatal Fury. Art of Fighting, Darkstalkers, Samurai, Showdow, the dreadful War Gods, Killer Instinct, Dark Rift. Mace the Dark Age, Battle Arena Toshinden. Then you had all the anime spin off fighters that didn't go outside of japan like DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ranma, Sailor Moon, and whatever else anime had a fighter that was a copy. Although I love Battle Arena, if they could make that with multiple desparations and with both open and caged ring environments with all the existing characters from the series and did not make any copycats that would be awsome.
It is also the same in the whole 2d era with flying ship shooters. Gradius, R-type, Raiden, Xevious, Twinbee, Thundeforce, Image Fight, Zanac, Guardian Force, Captain Skyhawk, and so on.
Then you had all the action adventure shooters like Contra, Metal Slug, , Total Carnage, Mega Man, (although Mega man is a bit different, but that game needs to be revolutionized in some way)
Arcade Lightgun games as well: Area 51, Virtua Cop, House of the Dead, Crypt Killer, Maximum Force, Terminator, Ghost Squad, Time Crisis, Rescue 911, Police Trainer, part of Die Hard Trilogy 1 and so on.
beat them up games: Double Dragon, Streets of Rage, Final Fight, super hero games based off all the comics like Spider Man Batman and all the rest had beat em up games as well. Fighting Force, Boncer, Captain Commando, Knights of the Round, (even though you used weapons it is still the same deal) Golden Axe, The Simpsons Arcade, Most of the Ninja Turtle games other than that god forsaken 1st one, Panzer Bandit, (That one actually was pretty cool, too bad not released outside of Japan), Viewtiful Joe, Bayou Billy, I have Run out on this category.
Ninja/super guy/hack and slash adventure games: Ninja Gaiden, Shinobi, Strider, Mega Man again, Mystic Defender, Onimusha, Devil May Cry, Dynasy Warriors, Devil Kings, Dick Tracy. Pitfall. All the action games on the PS2.
In short, I like the fact that there will be all new characters and fighting system, Ed Boon is actually taking the term Next Gen to heart and trying to create something that is NEW for the NEW consoles. Moving things from 2d to 3d was really cool back in the ps1/n64 era because that was a huge step, but now we need the gameplay mechanics to change. By that I don't mean the way to do the same moves like the wii motion control, (not that motion control can't be cool sometimes), but actual new moves and new ways to play the game or a different world altogether.
