hi everyone this is probably nothing to worry about but i get paranoid about anything that could be wrong with my ps3. i bought it a couple weeks ago and i could never hear the fan now it always turns on after being on for less than an hour. its not very loud but i can hear it anywhere in the room when there is no noise. is this something to be concerned about? it is not encased or anything and is in a ventilated spot. my room is not dusty and i can't imagine that a lot of dust got into it. also its not very hot in my room i have the ac on. its just that i've heard of people playing their ps3s for like hours and not hearing a peep and the new 80 gig model should be quieter than older ones. an i just being too picky or worried over nothing? thanks everyone

The fans coming on after operation is completely normal. If they didn't, you'd be in trouble. Obviously if its making a grinding, clicking, screaching or etc noise that you can hear over the sounds of your television, something wrong. If it's just a moderate fan noise, its fine.

I'm sorry but the correct term is "lying" not "laying". Laying implies that you're laying something down on something else. And why the f do you do that anyway?

You could just vaccum the vents of your ps3. I do it every-so often and after my ps3 doesn't get loud for awhile.

Something = him and something else = the PS3, so laying makes sense.

Lying on it would mean, making up an excuse when you get in late, smelling of perfume.

Geeez, go back to school son.

i never hear my ps3. but then theres the 7.1 surround sound.....sitting 20ft away from a 101 inch projector screen.....and really loud volumes....especially when i play custom soundtracks.....someone could nuke my neighborhood and i wouldnt hear it. I would feel it. Just wouldnt hear it. And Id probably die. Thats usually a sign that something happened.

It's summer so you will be experiencing it more often. I had an even worse problem. Mine was loud during the winter too. I thought the sides and back were well ventilated but my PS3 fan noise goes into full blast after say 15 minutes of Street Fighter 4. I was so happy I found a simple fix to it that I made a blog about it. Take a look at it at http://ps3fannoise.blogspot.com/ All you really need to do is put something underneath your PS3 to let the bottom ventilate.
