9.5mm, thickness

For example, this sucker isn't going to fit..... because it's 12.5mm thick

I have two 500GB 2.5 Sata 5400 rpm laptop hard drive installed,

Seagate Momentus or Western Digital brands are the one I can recommend, I can see that your HDD is 7200 rpm, while I can't confirm that higher speed could be an issue over time, like overheating or HDD errors, the PS3 manual suggest 5400rpm speed instead.

Just a safety precaution. I have a friend who does have 7200rpm HDD in his PS3 and it's been 2 years now without issue, he doesn't play much often however.

My personal advice, to be safe, look for 2.5 SATA, 5400rpm speed.

I just read a review from one of the gamespot editors that 5400 and 7200 are okay.

Use www.google.com and type in any question and you'll find what you need. Exapmle "PS3 compatible Harddrives". "How to install a Harddrive in a PS3".
