New PS3 or new hard drive?

I currently have a first gen 60 gb PS3. It is out of space on its hard drive and I was wondering if it would be cheaper and easier to just buy a new 250 gb PS3 or to replace the hard drive with a new 250 gb hard drive (if possible). If anyone has any info, tips, or suggestions on this matter they would be greatly appreciated.

Get a new harddrive. Don't get another ps3. Your 60GB is better than the ones out now.

Dont get another PS3, just purchase a new HDD. I changed my 40gb to a 320gb near the date I bought it, because I knew it was getting full too fast. Instructions are in the PS3 user manual. Depending on your needs, I recommend a 320gb or a 500gb.

I'd just get a portable hardrive and transfer all the songs and movies from the PS3 to it. That way it frees up space on the PS3 and if you want you can travel around with heaps of movies and stuff if you go away. Which only really works if you have a laptop as well. Or just leave plugged in.

Yes, I agree, like I said, unless it would be cheaper and easier to get a new one I would prefer to stick with this one since mine has never gotten the YLOD yet and the first gen can play ps2/ps1 games.

And does anyone know any good places to get new harddrive?

Do you have to get a special type of harddrive or an you get any kind?

Seems kind of silly to me to buy a whole new system when all you need is more HD space. you can find 320gig drives on newegg.com for ballpark 50 bucks "usa" beats paying 300$ for a new ps3 with only 120 or so gigs lol. there easy enough to install.

and to the guy above me you need a sata 2.5 inch laptop drive. very common. any brand will do though i HIGHLY recomend western digital! for how to videos just do a search on youtube.com for ps3 HDD replacment or upgrade, there are a millon of them.

I recently upgraded my 80GB to 500GB... i bought the HDD and an external HDD for back-up... i spent about $50 in your currency, more or less.

Also, the process is quite easy... at first i was kinda worried, like a journey into the unknown... but i read some tips here on GS and vids on youtube... it was actually easier than i expected... i spent more time researching about the process and the items i'll be using, than actually upgrading my HDD.

now i'm at peace, having about 380GB of free space... it will take awhile before i can used 'em up.

I have the answer now. Originally I was not sure how easy or expensive it was but now that I know that it is both easier and cheaper I have made my decision.
