yes its possible to take out that 40gb hdd and put in a 500gb hdd (although the 500gb is newly released and is quite expensive, so lets just say 250gb)
I think i read some where about an analysts prediction of a $50 price drop by the end of the year. No one knows when the next one will be, but honestly man Sony has been VERY generious with price drops, either look on ebay, or do some extra work/get a job.
Edit: I guess it doesn't really have an exact price, and it wasn't an analyst, it was gamestop :P.
Well dude, I'd say keep on saving money and buy the awesome June bundle. 80gb PS3, MGS4, rumble enabled controller, and the essentials.

I don't know if this is going to burst your bubble or if I'm miss-understanding your post, but Essentials is not included in the bundle as far as I know.
when it comes right down to it, the MGS4 bundle is going to be the best deal, that's what i'm waiting for, but when you really think about it, for what you get out of the box, 500 dollars is not expensive at all for the game console and bluray player.
