If it were me, I would pick Dirt 2. I wish I could get it, but it is too expensive. I am looking for a cheaper racing game for the ps3

I've got DiRT2 and it's brilliant! Haven't been able to try Shift yet (not out til Friday here in the UK) but am planning to get it although will probably wait a couple of weeks to give me a chance to make some headway throught DiRT2.

Doubt that helps much lol :)

I bought Shift and couldnt be happier with the intensity of the races. I played the Dirt 2 demo, it was great but i prefer the tarmac.

I've played both quite a bit, and I'd recommend Shift over DiRT 2. To be honest, DiRT 2 is pretty overrated imo. It's not that great. Shift on the other hand is better than I expected. It's a very good game.

So NFS: Shift is good huh?? well i did think NFS: Undercover was a bit weak on the completion of the game it really needed some more thought and work. DiRT was a good game but the cars were a bit hard to handle. DiRT 2 demo was much better and the cars performance was impressive. I was looking foward to the game. NFS:S not so much because the last 3 Carbon, Pro Street, and Undercover were weak and not well designed. But i prefer the tarmac as well. lol :) But the DiRT games seem to have a great play on rally racing. So which one should I get?

As they say Read the reviews first, Rent and play.

If you like it then buy it because if you buy it and end up not liking it, a waste of money.

They've rebooted the NFS franchise. A whole new developer is behind Shift, and by all accounts, it's pretty great. Of course Dirt 2 has also gotten good reviews. So whatever you feel. I'm probably going to go with Shift.

I'm going to get Shift just because the game looks a lot more appealing to me.

i've just bought the nfs:shift. i really love it. the gameplay is realistic and graphics are fantastic. Compared to Dirt2, sorry i don't quite like rally track. the choice of cars doesn't attract me. anyway, it's my choice.

I would go with nfs shift because its adds some new features to simulation driving. Dirt 2 pretty much is the same as the original dirt except for a few minor additions so if your looking for something new i would definitely go with shift.

I think on the whole the reviews are more consistently positive for DiRT 2, but Shift does look pretty appealing, but I'll wait for a time when there is dry spell of games before I play it. I just don't NEED to play it immediately.

I almost bought Dirt 2, but given the $90 price of entry, I hesitated. As someone who enjoyed GRID, would I enjoy Dirt 2 or Shift more? Thanks in advance.

(Shift was never on my radar to begin with, I have to say though, I am definitely considering a purchase after the many positive reviews)

I went to GS and found a used copy of Shift and decided to try it out. It sucked imo. Controls were clunky (with the aids off, tried it with aids on it seemed really sticky towards the driving line), walls were a little sticky. It tried to be like GRiD but could not pull it off whatsoever in terms of a sim-arcade racer. Luckily, there was that 7 day return policy so I took advantage of that and grabbed DiRT 2 and could not be happier. The racing is excellent, graphics are amazing and the controls were great. If you want to race on tarmac, get GRiD. If you have no preference, get DiRT 2, otherwise I would skip NFS: Shift...

i haven't played an nfs title for ages, however i have been a faithful follower of the collin mcrae series since its pc debut... i have played dirt and grid extensively and after playing dirt 2 and finishing up more than 60% on serious, which is not the hardest but 3rd or 4th hardest setting, i can say that it's really the best off-road driving game i've ever played... it combines both tarmac and dirt courses on different tracks however i haven't played on a full tarmac track yet, maybe they will pop up in different rallies, spain and some germany tracks were only tarmac... however if you are looking for a game with drift challenges and only tarmac tracks this is not your game...

Well, you can buy both GRID and Midnight Club LA: Complete Edition for the same price as just one of those games, and they are arguably better IMO.

Yep, this game is the prime example of untrustworthy reviews. Car handling was the worst I have ever expierenced. Seeing a used copy within a couple weeks of release speaks volumes. That and the $40 sales on shift should be a clear indication the game is fail.

Go for dirt 2, it is much better than shift IMO. The graphics are stunning, the gameplay is smooth and online is great. You won't be disappointed.

I have them both. Dirt 2 is just a little better.
