I copy/pasted this from ''http://www.computerandvideogames.com''.. toughed I share this info on GS...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sony has downgraded the specs of its PSP successor, codenamed NGP, so that it can be priced competitively against the 3DS.

That's according to French site 01.net (via1Up), which has an uncanny knack for leaking accurate Sony information (particularlyregarding the NGP). The site claims that Sony intends to release the NGP in Japan this year and the rest of the world next year. It says the firm aims to price non-3G models of the portable competitively with the 3DS, which launched in UK for £229.99 and in US for (a far more attractive) $249.99.

In its decision to play hard ball with pricing, however, the report claims that Sony's had to make some downgrading revisions to the hardware specifications it originally gave to developers. On board RAM and VRAM have apparently been cut in half to 256MB and 128MB respectively.

The consequences of such a change will apparently not be too significant especially, it says, if the access speed for the machine's external memory card is fast enough, although Sony has apparently had to reduce the size of the console's operating system to save space, and 26MB of RAM will reportedly be available for functions that require quick access.

The site also reports that Sony has scrapped plans to include 16GB of internal storage, instead opting to use external memory cards exclusively for storage. Early NGP dev kits apparently features a memory card slot that suggested a new format of memory card designed to provide mass external storage for the device, similar in architecture to SD cards.

Sony is expected to spill all at E3 in less than two weeks, itspress conference set for June 6.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

if this is true, than this sucks... if bin boasting about this machine, sins it was confirmed, as being a Portable with more power than the xbox360...

but if they halve the RAM, than that ship won't sale, and i don't know if i would buy the ''NGP(psVITA)

I've heard a bunch of these rumors lately yet all of them have differences in the downgrade. *sighs* well whatever. If Sony wants to shoot themselves in the foot yet again, then let them do it. Yet I think most people would agree the biggest thing separating the NGP from the 3DS was that the NGP nearly a handheld PS3. Besides, if a product is popular and looks good, then it will sell to gamers despite the price.

Damn, if they wanna save space and lower the cost, scrap the back touch pad idea. I don't see it has being so fun. I'm guessing it could work though, and I haven't seen its functionality so much yet. But if they did get rid of the pack touch pad, it would be a lot less thick and would probably lower the cost by a bit. And I don't mind them removing the 16GB internal memory. It's got a USB 2.0 port on the bottom so you can probably connect USB flashdrives and external harddrives. Pretty impressive. And I'm hoping they add HDMI support as well, instead of just component cables.

would be more than happy to pay the extra for a top performing machine. the thought of playing fallout or similar on a handheld fills me with joy. that said there was a tweet or something from sony in regards to this rumour simply saying ` dont beleive everything you read on the net `

The port at the bottom is a game cartridge slot. There's also not much reason for that much ram if it's dedicated to gaming. At 512 it has twice as much as the PS3.

Uhh, no it isn't, unless the cartridges are shaped like USB 2.0 ports and stick right out of the NGP.

One of those slots are probably gonna be the cartridge slot and the other being the memory stick (or SD, whatever they use) slot I'm guessing. They're different sizes after all.

This is a picture of the bottom of the NGP. Looks just like a USB port and could be used for HDMI.

The idea of a USB 2.0 kinda feels cheap.

But how? You could connect keyboards, media devices, HDMI cords and plenty of other things. It opens up tons of connectivity possibilities.

It just doesn't feel like something that should be on a handheld, but it does give you options.

I don't mind. Still good enough and ram isn't that important.

I hope they will do this, then it would be the first Playstation to actually be afordable at launch. Since they're aiming for a 250,- price tag to match the 3ds, it could work out quite well this time.

It's the year 2011. Most people can't even look at a portable device without thinking it's got a touchscreen.

Then you need to get back to the future.
