What Sony can do is release both the original NGP and the stripped down version as separate models, cause I would gladly pay for a NGP with more RAM and internal memory :/

I can understand them wanting to be competitive with the 3DS but Ifor one would happily pay £50 more for the NGP in it's original spec!!

Yeah, me too (except I'll pay with dollars). I hope Sony will give everything they promised, this is one way to kill a lot of hype that the NGP had.
Sony is trying to hit the $250.00 mark for the NGP. And there will be a 3G version at $350.00. If Sony can hit the sweet spot on pricing then NGP will be off to a great start. So cutting back on specs is what Sony is trying to do. I wish that they would not gimp the system too much.
Having 2 different versions would destroy the system since developers have to essentially program 2 different versions for the same game. But man, I would've paid that extra few bucks for a better system =\
I would rather pay a little extra and not have it gimped. I don't mind them removing the 16GB. I would just buy a 32GB card, but removing half the memory is a big blow in my purchasing decision.

Yeah that's exactly whats going on with me. These rumors are killing the hype I have for the NGP. I can't wait to hear what is said at E3. If they gimp it too much, I will just stick to the phone I am getting.[QUOTE="lensflare15"]

As much as I am a PS fanboy, I would stick with a PSP Go and a 3DS and purchase the NGP later next year... maybe summer.
No, there aren't 2 versions. It's just a rumor so far, by some people who read that the NGP is getting its cut. No one said it was happening, they simply said "What if Sony released 2 different versions?"
If this is true then it had better be the same price as the 3DS. If it's gimped, and more expensive than Nintedo it's really going to hurt the hype for this thing.
512MB Ram sounds good but there phones with 1GB Ram. And really, I'm not even worried about that because a dedicated portable console doesn't even need that much Ram. What's impressive is the CPU and GPU. An ARM Cortex-A9 core (4 core) CPU which is clocked at up to 2GHz, minimum being 800MHz. And the SGX543MP4+ 333MHz GPU is pretty impressive as well.Even if the rumor is true, the NGP would have about as much ram as the ps3, and the ps3 is on par with the 360 which has 512 ram.
ale_gamr
The 3DS has a 128MB Ram, dual (two) 266MHz CPU's and a PICA 200 GPU clocked at 200MHz and can pull off graphics like this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6_R5S_TUjc Capcom managed to run the PS3/Xbox 360 Resident Evil 5 demo on it as well.
The NGP has a 512MB Ram, 2GHz CPU and a 333MHz GPU, so imagine what it can do.
Even early in these consoles lifespans they'll be pulling off some great looking games, so imagine what the games will be looking like for them by the time Sony and Nintendo are prepping their next consoles for release.
honestly I don't see why Sony is making the NGP so expensive/powerful in the first place. The PSP didn't sell as much as it did because it was more graphically powerful than the DS, garrett_duffmanNope, you are wrong. It didn't sell as well because early in it's life it was getting pretty much nothing but ports. If fact saying it didn't sell as well because it was more powerful is just silly. Everybody wants more power. The problem with the PSP was, what's the point in having all that power if all you get is ports? I actually wanted a PSP over the DS because it was more powerful. What stopped me from getting it and getting the DS instead was the games. The PSP was loaded with ports while the DS wasn't.
Why do you want more RAM that the developers couldn't even use since every game would need to be optimized for the lesser system?Look here

I'm skeptical of this because one would think Sony would know how much all these features would cost the NGP at retail. For them to drastically reduce the RAM and axe the 16gb flash memory right before E3 sounds crazy. I bet tons of people would be unimpressed if Sony's big NGP showing was all about explaining how they reduced its specs in order to compete with 3DS pricing.Chaay
That would be very dissapointing yes, but I don't think they removed the 16GB of flash memory because they didn't announce it so no one actually knows... but that would be terrible.
Sony should just remove that pad thing at the NGP's back. I don't really see how it would work for most games.tekken220
Nah, let the touchpad be. If sony were to remove the touchpad then the only thing that would be unique on the hardware would be its power as a handheld. It's just as how the DS is known for the bottom touch screen, otherwise it would only be a beefed up GBA.
Are you expecting a $100 dollar difference between the base and 3G model?Sony is trying to hit the $250.00 mark for the NGP. And there will be a 3G version at $350.00. Look at the iPad, Blackberry Playbook, Netbooks, iPod Touch to iPhone, etc. They all have $100 differences or more for the ones with 3G included. No one cares abour 3G anymore anyways. 4G is where it's at. I'm just waiting for more phones with stereoscopic 3D and 4G before I get a new one.Sony is trying to hit the $250.00 mark for the NGP. You would basically go to a cellular provider, ask to buy a Sim card ($5-$20 depending on service provider) and then they'll show you their data plans. 1GB is around $20/month and most providers have a maximum of 5GB for $50/month but there are a lot of service providers in the states, like T-Mobile, that are offering TRUE unlimited data for $50/month. Most say that 5GB is unlimited, but that's not true. Two movie downloads and some web browsing and that's already gone. On top of that, online gaming is pretty heavy on data usage. I use to use my phone as a wireless hotspot so I could play online on my DS on the go, which used up my 2GB limit in about a week. The NGP will be downloading updates, games, apps, etc. so data usage would be much more on it. But you never know. Sony could work out some deals, especially with T-Mobile since they've already partnered with them for PSP wireless hotspots around America. I'm just waiting for T-Mobile in Canada.[QUOTE="PSP107"] Are you expecting a $100 dollar difference between the base and 3G model?PSP107
P.S. 3G isn't really outdates. It's still fast and can get like 7mb/s download speeds but 4G can get 14mb/s download speeds.
Remove the Touchscreens. It's fine if it's implemented well, but rarely do developers use those features correctly. More often than not it's forced stuff that doesn't add much to the experience. Not to mention NGP is already going to be a huge battery hog.Mau-JusticeDo think touch pad on the back will end up being useless?
