you are never required to install the game to play it.

however, most games will probably cache data to the HDD automatically for faster loading.

Well i doubt it will take that much space. The demo is 900-something Mb but don't know about the install. but just install it. im 100% sure that i won't take over 18 GB ;) it's just minor things being installed on your system to make load times faster and other things smoother.

you can always delete the files after you play the game. I think Sony should implement an update that deletes the temporary game files whenever a new game is loaded into the tray.

Someone on the Sigma forum said 3GB, and I am assuming that is for the full install option. You can also choose partial install, or no install as well.

But what if you want to play that game again? You would have to reinstall. Spider-man 3 does this and as soon as I beat it I removed it from the hardrive because I don't plan on playing it again. My Resistance file is still there because I plan on playing it much more.

how long does it take to do a full install of a game? 5 minutes? not that big of a deal. and not all game support the full install. I didn't think Resistance did. It does cache data to the HDD(similar to the "partial install" with NGS) but that is much different than installing the game to the HDD.

the way I look at it, If I play 20 games that install to the HDD and don't delete the data, then my HDD is full. I would like to have something do it for me automatically because I forget things easily. I have no problem waiting a few extra minutes for it to re-install.

maybe it could be a feature that you can enable for those that want it and disable for those that don't.

What if you have an external hard drive connected to your PS3, like I do? Would you be able to install it on the hard drive?

to a standard USB external drive? no. the drive has to be connected to the SATA port inside the PS3 for it to be read as the system drive. There are mods out that let you connect a regular, 3.5" IDE desktop drive to the PS3 and have the PS3 see it as it's system drive, but that can't be done with a USB external drive.

I would assume that it asks you at the start of the game. I would assume this because I don't have the game.

Nope. i never wrote that. It just LOADS faster and runs smoother because it doesn't have to read EVERYTHING from the Disc. (can't even remember when i could play a game on PC without a CD.. well unless i had some crappy Crack witch is for loser)

I dont think that data file is installed to make rfom load quicker. I think that data file is the autoupdate you are required to download if you decide to play online. I don't doubt that rfom does cache data on the hard drive, but as far as installing something, I doubt it.

Never played it online. and it never asked for a download? and the game said something about "Installing something something while you play. press X to continue" and i did. nothing else i could do. not even stop it from doing it.
