I'm going to cover a lot of things real quick, but first....
There are no 1080i LCD monitors, and unless there's a miracle that your 19inch has atleast 1920*1080 (1080p) resolution and proper inverse teceline that not even the most expensive tvs can do to convert 1080i back into 1080 progressive lines for a LCD (as they are progressive not interlaced), I doubt you should choose 1080i.
Please please post the model number of this LCD you have. Is it widescreen? It again can no where do 1080i, but that's not saying it can't accept 1080i input, but it will just convert it to the resolution of the screen, which is either 720p or lower. And atleast a 720p signal can be full 60fps, that Ninja Gaiden does, while 1080i is limited to 30fps, so you'd be cutting the framerate in half and not be gaining anything at all from the 1080i resolution sinces it's converted down.
Sorry I'm jumping on this so hard. But I would have to type pages and pages every day if I were to try and explain again and again to those with 720p LCDs that just because it supports 720p/1080i doesn't mean it's a 1080i screen and trying to judge between them is futile since you don't even see 1080i AT 1080i.
But if you can post your model number to your tv then we can look it up and figure out the best possible settings to use and what you are actually seeing on the display.
720p. I've compared 1080i and 720p on the demo. 1080i is a little sharper, and 720p runs smoother and overall image quality is actually better.Redfingers
That's right. 1080i will not reach 60fps unless it can display at 120Hz.However, there's probably no 120Hz for 1080i TV.

All LCD tv support or can have 1080i, but that doesn't mean it displays it at 1080i. You basically have to literally have a 1080p LCD in order to deinterlace and show all 1080 lines from 1080i. So if your screen is either 1280*720 or 1366*768 it has to deinterlace 1080i and downscale it to one of those resolutions, which means it's no longer is 1080i. If you hit info it will still say 1080i on the screen because that represents the input source.
1080i and 720p are almost identical. I hear 1080i is better for hd dvdsCaveman626
Sort of true on a 1366*768 tv (768p) where both 1080i and 720p are converted to that. But they are technically not identical. If you played say an HD-DVD at 720p on a 1080p tv you'd be seeing 720p. But give it 1080i from HD-DVD and the tv will deinterlace it back into 1080p, a huge difference over 720p.

I'll have to find out what resolution it is. As a guess, epseically for a screen that small, it might be a PC LCD converted to a TV. At 19inch it might have a resolution of 1440*900, a little higher than 720p, but under 1080p. I'll check back in later. Best thing to do is always try both and see how it looks. But no matter what, 1080i will limit you to 30fps.
well i hav a 50" sony wega 3lcd....and 1080i and 720p look identical to me...but wen i watch a bluray movie....it always displays at 1080i...i guess thats the best resolution for my tv

It might be looking identical because your screen is actually 720p or 768p and the 1080i is converted down to that and thus looks nearly the same as using 720p. The PS3 detects the maximum allowed resolutions over your tv's inputs, it can't figure out what the actually display resolution of your tv is. And yes, if 1080i option is on, it will choose that before 720p. But don't worry, 1080i is okay to use with movies even if it will be downconverted. Just be careful with games. 720p can do 60fps, 1080i only 30fps, so some games will look smoother with 720p, and while 1080i has no benefit over in this case and only a con of 30fps.
