Such a thing is unheard of, but I'm assuming some kind of tear in the space-time continuum.

No one has ever done this while updating their harddrive to a bigger one.

I updated my drive, but I didn't turn it on without a HDD. I don't know to be honest. A PC will load CMOS without a drive, but I don't know about a PS3.

Thanks for your response. My warranty is up and i am trying to find out if i can fix it myself. I am thinking of opening it up. Since my warranty is up it really does not make a diffrence if i remove the warranty seal or not. My ps3 is getting a yellow then blinking red light hoping it is a just a hard drive faliure.

Ah yes, the blinking red/yellow light(s) of death. Bummer man, sorry to hear that. :( I'm not 100% sure that the problem is JUST the HDD. It may be a general hardware failure. I'd suggest you call Sony to verify.

I tryed they know noting they told me i have to send it in to get a refurbished model for $150 cause it is not under warranty. Which is stupid since like you said it is most likely a hardware problem that i had nothing to do with. I guess im gonna open her up and see if their is a obvoius problem clean it and see what happens.

If you can get your hands on one, you may try throwing a "new" hard drive into it, reset it (when you initially turn it on) and see what happens. Worst case: It STILL doesn't work, and you know that it's not JUST the HDD.

No, not necessarily. If you're thinking of upgrading your PS3's HDD anyway, you may go more expensive (more GB's) just so that if you do indeed have to replace the PS3, you can upgrade ITS HDD immediately.

They can range anywhere from $100 - $200, depending on brand, size, and speed.
