No HDTV - Should I get a PS3?

I don't have an HDTV. I don't even have a widescreen TV. I only have an old 20" CRT 4:3 TV with a SCART socket.

I do have a 19" LCD monitor for my PC with VGA/DVI inputs. It's 1280x1024 and not widescreen. It's not HDCP.

Ishouldbe able to afford an HDTV sometime, but maybe not this year.

On my PS2 I mainly play GTA, MGS, FF, Gran Turismo. GTAIV should be out this year,I have no idea when the others will hit the shelves.

Do you think it's worth me getting a PS3?

If you have a HDMI to DVI cable, go for it. The LCD is fine until you can grab an HDTV. Though i'd recommend puttin the PS3 money towards a new TV first.

Just remember, you'll play without sound unless you have an optical sound system ready as well.

Without HDCP, the HDMI signal won't display on the monitor.

As for the sound, i'm sure a simple Y adapter will do. If the speakers don't have a line-in jack, the PC should. Only drawback is you'll need the PC on every time you want sound.

I'm in the same situation. I decided on going for the Ps3 first, then the TV.

Yes you should get it, but if you want true gaming experience than don't get it yet.

I agree. I'd reccomend getting an HDTV first. I mean your gonna need one by 2009,(Because of the cut off of analog signals, where you're gonna need a ATSC tuner to watch TV) but it's not going to hurt you to get one. GET HD first!jdogthebomb09

I have to disagree. What good is an HDTV to me without a console? (I don't watch much TV/DVD's). If I get the console first, then at least I can SCART it to my museum-piece TV and play games. An HDTV would just be a dust-collector until I could afford the console.

i got my ps3 hooked up to a 51cm SDTV and it looks great! if you have the money, then get a HDTV, but i wouldnt go out of my way to get one and spend the money on one unless my SDTV actually broke...

its worth it but... you really should plan to move to HD soon. as bluray movies and some demos will have lines going through them which is annoying. its also hard to read text without HD. im moving to HD soon.

so ye go for it. but a HD TV is highly recommended and it looks waaaayyy better

well i would say no because you didn't with a ps2 then no need with a ps3 but for me i'd rather play with a HDTV then without
