no ps2 b/c on the 40gb ps3

how come they can't achieve software emulation? did something change in the hardware specs? ps2 b/c was a huge thing for the ps3 due to the extensive ps2 library, sony is like shooting themselves in the foot again

fanboyism? you guys are such babies always crying that Sony does this Sony does that seriously think about it everyone wanted a damn price drop they give it and an even cheaper model and you complain that they dont give you BC when you still have your PS2 and you buy a PS3 to play PS3/next-gen games. maybe its cause i have the 60 gb with the full ps2 playback but i dont see the big deal, sure when i bought my ps3 i played ps2 games for a little bit (maybe the first month) but why would you pay $600 to play games you couldve played before..

People want a cheaper PS3 but they forget that Sony is a business trying to make money. How do you think they are able to lower the price people?... They have to cut some things out. And what's so wrong with keeping your PS2 so you can play PS2?PS1 games? It seems Sony can never please some people...

ps2 has been outselling the ps3 several times, not everyone has a ps2 and the point is that offering a cheap ps3 with backward compatibility would offer incentive to those many individuals who were gonna buy a ps2 to upgrade and buy a ps3. the ps2 is far from dead and its still more popular then the ps3. also don't forget those that sold there ps2 or planned on selling it to get a ps3.

they had to drop something though, and its a tough decision i think though that dropping wi-fi would have been better, but hey maybe if they did they still wouldn't be able to drop the price as much as they did. its kind of a double edged sword they are doing there best.

Sony biggest problem in my opinion are all the people going around hyping up there announcements and what they are going to do to a ridiculous state one that they can't meet(rightfully so too). clarkportmanken

Thats true but if you think about it you don't even have to sell your PS2. Now that the 40GB is cheaper you can just save yoru money to buy one without having to trade in anything.

Personally I'm just tired of sony's lies and backtracks and flip flopping. At one point sony has said: That having more skus is confusing and now they have more skus than any other console. That rumble was impossible and now it's back. That rumble was last gen now it's suddenly cool again. That software emulation was bad and that there way was better now they use software emulation. That backwards compatibly of titles was important now they've removed it all together.nosedive51

No the 360 has 4 SKUs the PS3 only has 3 but I still agree with your first statement. But they couldn't add rumble because of the immersion law suit maybe they should have just came out and said that but that's why they couldn't do it.

sure bc is great, but when i think about how much i actually use my ps3 for ps1/2 games... well i havent much and i didnt use it much with my ps2 either

What I don't get is that people are calling this a mistake. For the consumers that buy the new 40gb Sony will make more money since they HAVE to buy new PS3 games. For the consumers that want the bc they lowered the price of the 60gb and it is an even better option today.

For whom is this a mistake?? Seems like both sides gained......

EDIT: The only thing is that it can confuse consumers, but this is a technology age everyone is always adapting to new technology and consumers should as well. They should also do research in what they buy. It's funny how many people are so mis informed about things these days and im not talking adults im talking about young kids as well.

or how about since you shell out X amount of dollars for this piece of hardware you expect it to do some extra things. you forget that not all people who buy a PS3 have a ps2, therefore by adding emulation sony can STILL get their PS2 game sells up...........wow, look at what happens when you actually think.

this is simple...who complains about this 40gb and 60gb price cut, means it has already a ps3, those who doesn't have a ps3 yet and had patient and waited time enough for this do happen, i don't doubt that those like me are very happy.

And btw ps3 is 100% compatible with ps1 games and will play ps2 games in the future by software emulation.

if you guys want B/C, work harder and get the higher SKU. IT's not like sony is removing these B/C from the high end models. Those that still play ps2 games owns a PS2 system and purchasing the $400 PS3 will not kill them. For people who never own a PS1 /PS2 will care less about those games because they have their mindset on PS3 games and bluray movies. People will never stop complaining. Get their PS2 games sells up!? lol you make me laugh. PS2 system can stand on it's own feet and it's been that way without the help of the PS3. It's selling like hotcake. Even bill gates has his eyes on it.

Well hope so. But dont be so sure either. All the PS2 emulation hardwares are removed. And SONY has made it clear it is not compatible.

Unless there is other way to work around it, i dun think it is possible.

Well who knows, wait until someone acutally bought a 40G and test its BC.
