If your playing a game before 2009, it might not have trophies. For example Assassin's Creed 1 and MGS4 etc..But you haven't said the name of the game so can't really help.
There are quite a few games that had trophies added in a patch, after they were released. If you haven't got your PS3 connected to the internet and downloaded the game updates, you might not have the trophies installed.
I played through and completed Uncharted DF, yet have no trophies to show for it. I did however begin to play it again, unlocked the first couple of trophies again, and they did show. Im about 25 or so trophies short on my card...weird, i never did figure this out.

Absolutely. I played this game back in Nov. 2008, when i first bought the PS3. Synced many times since then...strange problem, but whatever i guess...maybe someday they will just be there lol...
your prolly doing something wrong i had this problem for the baby master trophy in heavy rain did it a few times till it poped

I think (I cant confirm it) that heavy rain has "delayed" trophies, meaning that the throphies start showing themselves until you beat the game, I think its something for "not cut the inmersion" because when you get a trophie, the tinking noise and the rectangle that shows up will most likely drag your attention from the game away

if you were playing on a game save from before the trophy patch you won't get any of the trophies, you had to start a completely new game when the trophy patch was released to get the trophies

It had trophies, i remember seeing/hearing them for the 1st time playing uncharted, and being like uhh what was that? lol..
I have a feeling your on the right track though...but i guess ill never know...

The game didn't have trophies when it first came out. I didn't have the trophies even listed until after I was able to access the Internet and download a patch. That may be what happened in your case as well. What your probably saw were the ingame achievements you can unlock, because that's basically what the trophies added are-- the ingame challenges.
