It all depends.
Would you rather play a frantic, fast-paced multiplayer TPS with a heavy emphasis on air and ground vehicles and team objectives that completely lacks a single-player experience?
Or would you rather play an utterly engrossing Western RPG full of swords, shields, magic and monsters that completely lacks a multiplayer experience?
It's a really tough choice. I'm having so much fun playing Warhawk right now that I can't help but recommend it to anyone who will listen, but I would have missed out big-time if I hadn't played Oblivion.
Both games have their own "wow factor" and are absolutely worth their purchase price. Basically, it all comes down to:
Multiplayer shooter vs Single-player RPG
You could easily spend 100 hours playing either of these games.
Buy both :) Otherwise XL83`s advice is spot on, but Oblivion a "western" rpg? Not sure what is ment by that. However I have both games - completed Oblivion (loved every minute of it (lots of them too) .. and Warhawk is a great, fun online game!

There are JRPGs (Japanese Role Playing Games) and WRPGs (Western Role Playing Games). JRPGs such as Final Fantasy are usually turn-based, anime style. WRPGs are usually focused on swords/shields/dragons/magic and have more of a focus on equipping items, they are usually real-time. It doesn't mean they are Western like the Unforgiven is a Western, it's just a way of dividing RPGs into two distinct categories, since Final Fantasy and Baldur's Gate are such completely different types of games, yet both are definitely RPGs.
Hope that clears it up.
Go with Warhawk. You're likely to suck if you wait too long. If you get Warhawk now, you can get your ranking up before EVERYONE becomes really good at it. Dewey
Provided he can get into "ranked" servers. I love warhawk but there are quite a few online issues that need to be taken care of asap.
Both are great games.
