I don't get it. I was told to go buy spells from a shop and I bought one (or so I thought) and I didn't learn a new skill. I don't think having to spend 54 coins anytime I want to summon a Scamp is what I'm supposed to be doing. Is there something I'm supposed to buy instead of a scroll?

You have to go and find spell merchants or whatever

you have to buy the spell not a scroll...

There is one in the main city and more throughout the game..

so they shouldnt be to hard to find

sounds like you bought the wrong thing. scrolls are one-use spells which use no mp andhave no skill requirement. once you use it it's gone. spells have skill level requirment and use a certain amount of mp to perform. you can buy spells from people in the mages guild and some people in churches. once you buy a spell you have learned it and can cast it at any time (provided you have the skill requirements and mp).
