I just bought a Playstation 3 last Friday (18th June).

Whilst playing the PS3, I noticed odd cracking/popping sounds when playing Red Dead Redemption. I've read about it online and it seems that my problem is shared amongst other Playstation 3 owners. Just out of curiousity, if you have ever had this problem, how have you tried to reduce the sound or stop it? Also do you know what the cause of the problem is and whether it's a problem to be concerned about?

Many thanks!

nothing at all to be concerned about.

Totally normal....it has to do with the console heating up, and the plastic casing expanding and contracting. All slims do this.

Wouldn't an exorcist be more appropriate? Holy water, whilst effective, would break the PS3:?

It's really mind boggling how many comment on this and have no idea what it is.

It was merely a general observation related to the TC's post and nothing to do with demonic possession.

How are we suppose to know? It could be several things, (from what I've read) a loose piece inside, the fan randomly colliding with something, the hot/cold theory, etc. For all we know, the sounds the TC is getting from his PS3 might be different to all of the others. I own a Sony VAIO whichmakes loud cracking noises that seem to come from the disc drive, it most certainlyhas nothing to do with temperature but itjust seems to be the way my laptop works, so I'm fine with it.What I do know is that, ifthe PS3 noiseswere a big deal (as in causing hardware failure), we would know... so just go play your PS3.
