I'm new to the forums so don't taze me if this has already been discussed, but what does everyone think the ratio of single-player-offline gamers to online-multiplayer gamers is? I like games based on a good story, good character depth, and good single-player gameplay. Now I'm not saying that I don't like to play games with friends because I love multiplayer for things like soul calibur and I even occasionally reactivate my WOW account but I feel like by the time we get to next generation consoles, they'll be dominated by online games where you shoot each other......and that's it... You can mix it up a little but doesn't anyone get tired of that sort of thing? Out of all my friends the majority are in to games like that exclusively.

I'm not big on multi-player. I like to play co-op with my boyfriend but other than that, I like to play alone. (BTW: Welcome to the forums rlg5150!)

in my life, I enjoyed only 4 online games.

SF4

FFXI

Starcraft

Counter-Strike.

Rest of the games I enjoyed were all enjoyed offline. Online multi-player weren't much fun for me other than those outstanding ones.

Welcome to the forums. I'm not a very big fan of online multiplayer myself. Out of all the times I've played my PS3 99% of that time has been spent playing single-player games. Nothing beats a good story-driven campaign IMO.

Welcome to Gamespot. I like online games but it doesn't rule my decions on buying games. I hate online only games and when game make a half done campaign and only focus on multiplayer.

I play online if I had someone to play online with. Random idiots just annoy to no end and would rather not listen to them or deal with what they do to ruin the fun.

I'm all about Single Player .. I don't play online to often, but mostly because my connection sucks. I always finish the single player campaign before I even think about going online .. the exception was Killzone 2 ..

The sing-player story mode is what makes a game good or great or just absolute crap. In my opinion the Single-play IS the game. Online play is just something extra. Like, I LOVED COD4, but I've never played it online. Its no fun to me, being a single-player, to walk into the crossfire with a bunch of guys who ONLY play online. I get pawned everytime I attempt an online game. And I don't think its cause I suck. Its just that all those online junkies are SO good! Heck, they even get controllers specially modded to fit their playing style and cheat -rapid fire and stuff. Thats serious! Anyway, I only buy a game for the single-player cause I, like you, appreciate a good story and character depth. Online play is just a bonus, and if its cool I'll check it out. That said, KZ2 has an awesome multiplayer and its the only one besides MGO that I've actually spent enough time to get good at. I do like Co-op stuff, though. I like being able to enjoy the story with a friend fighting at your side, but this has been so poorly done at times--- Fable 3, Mercinaries 2, Gears of War 2..... Yeah, I said it. I would also like to see more multiplayer OFFLINE! My wife is a bit of a gamer as well, but she really only likes to play the cool games with me cause they're too hard for her to go at alone. So, why don't we see more games that allow local co-op? That's really the only multiplayer I actually LOOK for in a game, but its rarely there and ever more rarely worth a crap. I also would like to express that I HATE when people judge a good game based soley or even too heavily on its multi-player. Some awesome games get screwed over and shortened so Multiplayer can be included. I think thats such a waste. They say that Bioshock 2 is going to include multiplayer and I'm real nervous that it may take precious time and money out of the single-player campaign's developement.

Single player please!!! It's already been said but I'll repeat anyway, too many games are getting criticized for having so-called "weak" or no multiplayer. Game reviewers are in large part responsible for this.Excellent & goodgames have actually been deducted minorreview points because of this (GAMESPOT & IGN ETC... lookin atchoo) Don't forget Sony & MSeither, as this is the results of their pushing devs intopushing this mostly unwanted "feature" onto us. I would like to see the industry come to grips with this by simply beginning to make online specific games for one. The market is there. A few in this thread indicated that they love online MP and others like myself would probably be more tempted to explore this form of gaming if it were an actual genre as opposed to tack-on after-thought content that I (and a surprising amount of others accordong to this thread) simply don't want.

Someone mentioned thetheir concernabout Bioshock2 now having forced MP. It scares the crap out of me but I think 2K are extremely competent and hopefully won't allow this to cloud the actual game. I say "forced" because ifI remember correctly MP wasn't ever really withing the scope of this new series. Is 2K genuinely interested in MP or are they going with percieved popular opinion as presented by MS, Sony, & the review industry in general. I really need to know when to shut up. Please forgive the rant.

I have MGS4, GTA4, Saints Row 2, NBA 2K9.....I haven't tried the online content of these games.

Yeah, nothing beats single player games. I just like cozying up and playing by myself for a little while so I can enjoy a good story and gameplay. Online with friends is fun on the weekends, but I'd rather play an RPG anyday over an online shooter.

Hi rig5150! welcome to the forums :D

I have never played my ps3 online. I don't even have a PSN id.I keep meaning to get it online, but I'm putting it off for as long as possible because I'm scared of online gaming taking up all my time! I love playing with my friends offline, but not many games support this which I think is quite sad. none of my friends play online either, we all have to get together and play a certain motion sensing console...

I don't play online console games. Bad saddly that is what the industry is pushing for. At some point will end up with a lot of bad products like the PC world gets. Half finished games that get a ton of patches.

I never really play online because I never have internet on my PS3. But that doens't matter to me because I much prefer offline co-op/splitscreen games anyways. Of course, I am a huge fan of nice single-player games as well, but it is always nice to be able to play locally with a friend.

The single-player is my favorite part of games. The online usually isn't that great and gets boring fast. Showing off how well I can kill other players doesn't really amuse me. I prefer to cooperate with other players, not fight them. Unfortunately most gamers I know have an Xbox 360 and bought it just for the online shooting games. It makes me miss the good old days when there weren't very many online games and more people cared about the games with good single-player gameplay and good story, like Final Fantasy 10 for example. My friends and I would talk about how far we were in the game and what level we were and how many summons we had. Then when we all beat the game we would talk about the ending. Now all they talk about is owning people on Halo or Gears of War and it's just annoying. I miss letting my friends borrow games that I thought were really good, or borrowing games from them. Now they aren't really interested in the games I have and I don't really like the games they got. None of my friends have a PS3 or Wii, they all just have Xbox 360 so that wouldn't be possible anyways. Although I just recently fixed up an Xbox 360 with RROD that someone threw away. I was excited at first at the thought of a free Xbox 360, but soon realized there were no games for Xbox 360 I really even wanted to play except for maybe Lost Odyssey. The only online games I've really enjoyed were GunZ, Maple Story, and Phantasy Star Online Ep 1 & 2/Blue Burst. I kinda like the online for Grand Theft Auto 4, Little Big Planet, and Rock Band 2, but the offline is the most important part of a game for me. I'm not gonna have the online part of a game decide whether I enjoy a game or not. Especially when I don't have any friends with a PS3 to play the online with me. There are times though when I actually enjoy a shooting game like the multiplayer in Resident Evil 5 and the Nazi Zombie survival in Call of Duty: World at War.(Sorry about changing the subject to shooting games. I don't mean to bash on the whole shooting game genre. I'm just stating how overrated shooting games can be, especially when it comes to the online.)

By the way, don't get mad at me for the comments I made on the Xbox 360. I don't mean to disrepect the Xbox 360 in any way. I actually think all systems are great. I would buy all of the systems if I had the money. I think everyone should stop trying to prove which system is better and just agree that all systems have their pros and cons and people have their own preferrances on games. We all know that will never happen though.

(Sorry for the large amount of writing. I know most people wont even bother to read this, lol. I just get carried away sometimes. :D

There are a lot of offline players but the ratio between them and online gamers would be a pure guess. For myself, I am only an offline gamer who enjoys co-op over multiplayer. It is a matter of choice and likes.

Ya, I know, I was just letting you know because I see recommendation threads get locked all the time, I was just letting you know. Also, don't bump really old threads, that got me modded. I'm just helping you know the general rules here, you really haven't broken any.

I'd say 4 words, Metal Gear Solid 4, best offline & online game ever. Playing online a game like this is an unique experience, I have to say that I also enjoyed RE5 so much by finishing online, it's the ultimate experience of gaming by using the internet.
