I'm far from a tech, but I can only assume it's the YLOD. Calling sony is all I can really tell ya. I remember reading something about a recovery mode someone posted in another YLOD forum, but I'm not sure how to do this. Sorry I can't be of more help.btf504thanks, but I thinks its a gone. I thought I really treated that thing good. I had so much game info and saves on there. Bad freaking luck

I thought I really treated that thing good. I had so much game info and saves on there. Bad freaking luck I had the same problem, but it was outside of the U.S. and i was using a step-down(transformer). The red light just blinks for a second or two when the ps3 was turned on and nothing happens. It turned out to be the transformer that had the problem, because when tested with another one, the ps3 worked fine. So i can only guess that maybe it's a power problem.
Yeah, that's why I hate it when I see people say something along the lines of... "I've had a 60 gig for 2 years + and its still goin' strong! You must have done something wrong." People, for the most part, at least what I have seen, like to blame technical problems of the PS3 to poor handling of the console on the owner's part.
It's obvious, I think, that there's a bigger problem going on then what people want to admit. It scares me, because I have a 60 gig, too. Well, good luck with getting it fixed, or whatever you decide to do.
This is the first console I have had die on me
PS2 and 1 alwasys worked
Snes and nes still work with a little blowing the the games, but work fine.
For the amount of money O threw down on this thing and for this to happen is just messed up.
never thouht it would happen, cause like i said I always have been gentle and took care of it.
Huge loss for me and my wallet
I guess I will try unplugging everyhting and wait a day.
This is just so messed up.
Can it be fixed by sony?
These damn yellow light of freaking death
TJSAGE
Do you have warranty? Sometimes it happens due to the hard disk crashing, try another one. But if you have warranty go to sony.
Just out of curiousity - When you PS3 froze did it turn itself off, or did you flip the switch at the back while it was still on?Asim90Only think I could do was flip the switch, I did that and left it off for about 10 hours, came back home was able to get on for 5 min and then this happened. Just called sony and they are sending a damn box to send it in after I fill out some for they are sending through email. I still cant believe this happened

Now this is the problem, I think this is why so many people have been reporting this issue here lately. You do NOT do this people! If your PS3 freezes, hold down the power button for 3 seconds and it should restart. If this doesn't work hold it down for about 20 seconds, this will FORCE it to restart no matter what in a SAFE way. If you flip the switch at the back while it is on you will damage the system and corrupt the hard drive which is probably what happened. I'll bet my own PS3 that that is why so many people are experiencing this, I could me wrong but I'm sure it is. Seriously guys, read the manual. NEVER flip the switch at the backunless its on standby or you are moving your system to another location, otherwise there is no need to do it.

Thats the word.-WTF does this mean

call sony, you have to send it inRemove hard drive and switch it on. See what happens. Could be a hard disc failureDisturbed123do not remove the hard drive. if you get the same system back with the same hard drive all your saved game data will still be there...sony told me this a few days ago.
Hello mate,
Sorry to hear the news... Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Was playing GTA for 3 hours solid then it packed up just as i saved it!
Mine is a launch model so is out of warranty but I rang up sony and they said its normally £182.17 but he spoke to his supervisor and then offered me a free replacement model!!! I could have had an 80gb this wk but decided to take them up on another 60gb model (refurbished) but have to wait 3 wks and then a further 6 weeks (up to) to get my game disc back!
I dont know how they work it but I think if you ring up and be ultra nice and stuff they are super helpful. It isnt costing me a penny!
Think its caused from overheating - My vents are caked in dust so should got an airduster in hindsight... Hope you get it sorted! Olly
PSN ID - ollybug
Again thanks for the responses.
I just filled out the email Sony Sent and had to pay around $167.00 with my CC.
I would have thought they would have atleast sent me the box, looked and it, and then billed me.
But what can I do?
Still cant believe This is my first system to go, and I have been gaming since Atari and believe it or not I stil lhave an original Coleco and Atari and they work fine.
