So my xbox 360 just broke a couple of days and now microsoft wants to charge me $99 to have it repaired since its is one week out of warranty. The thing that kills me is that they have three year warranty for the three red lights of death and sadly I only have one but both are manufacture defects so what is the difference? Anyway I have decided instead of dealing with refurb after refurb I am trusting my fellow gamespotters to help me decide which ps3 system I should choose and which game I should get first. I am sort of leaning towards the 40 gig system since I doubt I will be using that much memory, and also are there any differences between the two such as backwards compatability issues? Opinions are greatly appreciated ahead of time so thanks to anyone who helps out.

I would go with the 80GB, mainly because the 40 does not have 1. a memory card reader (good for transfering data) and 2. backwards compatability with PS2 games. Even through you probably don't have any PS2 games coming from an Xbox, you might want to play some of the older titles. The Hard drive space is kind of a non issue because it is really easy to swap that for a bigger drive.

You should start out with CoD4, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Unreal Tournament 3 and Warhawk (get the one bundled with a bluetooth headset). You will be set for a while with those games..

Here's the deal.

40 gig: no PS2 BC, full PS1 BC, 40 gigs, no memory card reader, 2 usbs

80 gig: good PS2 BC, full PS1 BC, 80 gigs, memory card reader, I think 2 usbs not sure though

60 gig: perfect BC, 4 usbs

If you don't plan on using a ton of memory or need to have a PS3 capable of playing PS2 games, get the 40 gig. If you need PS2 BC, hunt down a 60 gig (good luck) or get the 80.

Enjoy your new system, it's rolling in games right now and you'll have a blast.
