Yes, it could possibly be an overheating problem, and please correct me if im wrong, but this could also be early signs for the Yellow Light of Death. It is quite possible. If i was you i would just try playing it for an hour or so, and see if it happens again. Oh and one more thing, how long were you playing it for before this happened?
nooooooo. and i have a rare BC model(MGS4 bundle) that i bought back in Aug 2008Sounds like you're getting the YLOD. I've gotten it twice and usually my PS3 would shutdown by itself and I'd be able to turn it on and play for a little more and then it would go off again and die

Overheating, most likely. You gotta give the PS3 a breather sometimes. If you wanna roll the dice a little google "thermal paste PS3" and you should come up with instructions on how to reapply thermal paste to the cell processor. Word is that solves a lot of issues with the older PS3s... which makes sense, since it's advisable to reapply paste every 1-2 years in a performance machine that generates a lot of heat like this one does.sportwarriorthats the funny thing because 1st off i haven't really been playing games these last few months. secondly my system was off for hrs when i turned it back on

If it does break hit me up with a PM and I'll tell you the place I used to get it fixed. They charge half the price Sony does and they're quicker
Hmm, im sorry to say this, but this sounds a lot more serious, and the only thing you can really do now, is hope it holds up and doesn't YLOD on you. Best of luck man.
do you usually leave your ps3 on for long periods, IE media streaming and stuff. Reason i ask is because i've never gotten the rrod or the yellow light of death. But i dont keep my ps3 on when im not using it. i just play a game every once in a while. my computers ive had issues with in the past because i have them on a lot more often.
Either you got the YLOD, its overheated, or the power supply went out. If its overheated then just leave it off for a day, but the other two you might wanna either send it to Sony or buy a new PS3
Were you playing Lair when the problem occurred? Because your PS3 might have just shut itself off in disgust. :P
