Ive heard virtual fighters excuse for not having online play but what is tekkens?  This is so ridiculous and inexcusable!

The majority of people that can afford a $640 system are adults with jobs and responsibilities so for this adult fanbase alone who will spend the most money, and have the money to spend they should make these darn games with online.  Adults arent going to have time to have other adults come over regularly to play games but if there was online this could be done with no problem.  And also extend the replay value of the game.  Step it up sony no more excuses make this a must you can do it MS does it.

I am an adult that does not nor am I interested in online play, I enjoy getting together with my friends and dont care for online play...online gaming has ruined many good racers, Motorstorm and F1: CE both great games and neither offer any form of offline multiplayer. Its sad to see such great games loose something that makes them enjoyable, thats the point of a console, to play with multiple people in the same place on the same television. If you want online get a PC. Atleast thats my opinion on the matter.

Its a port of the arcade version. What do you expect?

As for tekken 6 and online who knows. Although it might not be as responsive as virtua fighter its still pretty damn responsive. Considering DOA4's hit and miss online latancy I wouldn't put it past namco to not put online with tekken 6.

How does online ruin a game?  For you people who arent into online gaming on consoles its simple dont play online just continue playing your single player campaigns or split screens.  A game having the online option should not effect you in the least.  I have heard so many sony fanboys fall in love with online play once they try it.  Its not for all but give us who like it the option thats all im saying.

Because of the recent obsession with online gaming many games have simply removed the split screen option and substituted it an online multiplayer mode and assume its equally as great. In my opinion its not, and its because of this extreme desire for online gaming that many games are now supporting split screen less and online more...

It ruins frame based games such as these fighters where everything is so precise that the smallest bit of lag destroys gameplay...doa4 isnt frame based so it can have online, but even then it was laggy and downright frustrating to play online. Do your research before you complain. Also sony has had online for years, so saying sony fanboys fall inlove with online when they try it is dense. Many people who owned a ps2 played it online, so that is just completely dense...

I hate to break it to you, jwat4, but your opinion is wrong. What you should have said is that it is a shame that games are sacrificing a console multiplayer experience for the an online one when they should be including both.

That does not work for many adults espcially those with families etc. The last time I had someone come over to play games i was in high school plus most of my friends that play games are all over the world now. That's why online play is important to me and many others.

Thats an interesting idea...an opinion that is wrong?....I dont think I implied that one should be included over then other, I simply stated they are not including offline multiplayer

Do you have chlidren? If so I would suggest hanging out with them and playing these games with them...My dad and I frequently hang out and enjoy a game of Madden. Normally we break out the old NES and play Tecmo Bowl or Mario but its still a good time to hang out with the family, of course depending on the age of the children certain games might not be okay for them to play...but thats not the issue... I just think that online play should not be so important that it eventually eliminates offline multiplayer. I honestly dont have many friends that own a PS3...maybe a handful at best. So online with my friends is not a great option. I understand the desire to offer it, I just dont understand the obsession with it, the fact that its become a must have, if a game doesnt offer online its not "Next Gen." I also believe the reason online is not offered in games like Tekken and Virtua Fighter is because of the issues with lag and things of that nature, I believe one of the creators of Virtua Fighter was quoted saying something to that effect.

Most games will show a meter of how good the connections are so just play with good connections. If you don't have a good connection then simply stay offline but for those of us that do let us have that option.

They feel that it would be an issue and I think they know a lot more about the issues that we do.

How do people still not understand this? Fighting game's that have fighting engine's such as those in VF and Tekken would not work correctly online. The timing in the moves is too precise. Any lag, especially in VF, even lag YOU don't notice, would completely ruin a player's timing. Any opening your opponent has will cost you dearly in these games, especially if you aren't playing a button-mashing noob.

Online gaming is heavy on rankings and records. They would mean nothing if either of these fighters was online because the timing issues would affect even the best players. A slow down or stoppage of movement for even a small amount of time would leave an opening for an opponent to end you. PERIOD.

You want to play online get DOA and button-mash away.

Well Sega is the only one that said this. Most Xbox games are online even the fighters. Sega also did Virtual tennis and it's offline for PS3 but online for the Xbox 360 Sega was just making excuses....there is always a disclaimer before you play online 'game experience may change etc' I just hope they decide to have online multiplayer for the xbox version. It's all about havign the choice....I will prefer a game with a little lag than no online at all.

Do you know of any Pc fighters?

That does not work for many adults espcially those with families etc. The last time I had someone come over to play games i was in high school plus most of my friends that play games are all over the world now. That's why online play is important to me and many others.

Yeah this is why online gaming is important to me as well.  I moved to Virginia from New York last summer, and have left many of my friends I've grown up with.  I still play games with them thanks to online gaming.  I've made new friends who I play with, both offline and online, but I'm a senior in High School, and we shall all go our separate ways after this, so online shall be great to have when playing them, and actually a way to keep in touch.  lol I use the headsets to conversate about other things than the game sometimes.

NavigatorsGhost
So you are saying you cannot buttom mash with VF5? Any fighting game can button mash and still pull off moves and DOA4 requires timing just like VF5 to pull off moves and combos accurately. It works well but then again my connection is 30/5 and so are most of my friends. If someone wants to play VF5 button mashing they can just like DOA4.

No dude I don't have kids and I don't know where that came in. No one said anything about eliminating offline play. all I am sayign is that online should always be an option. I have a good connection and so do my friends so i never experience lag even with fighters. People keep tooting this lag excuse...if both parties have a good connection lag would not be an issue. Most games will show a meter of how good the connections are so just play with good connections. If you don't have a good connection then simply stay offline but for those of us that do let us have that option.

You mentioned adults with Families, I simply assumed you were one of those individuals...thus having kids, a family. And stating that both parties having a good connection would eliminate lag doesnt work, no connection is perfect there is always lag and there will always be issues and its not "people tooting around about lag" its the developers of the games. They feel that it would be an issue and I think they know a lot more about the issues that we do.

It's all about havign the choice....I will prefer a game with a little lag than no online at all.

name me two fighting games on-line. there is only one.

Why does every game have to have online play? The only good online games are shooters in my opinon.

LOL, I'de like to see you try... VF is almost button-mash proof... that's why my girlfriend doesn't like it, most fighters she can win a game or two simply by mashing the buttons like crazy and since that simply doesn't work in vf she gets her behind kicked every single time. I already told her she has to practice before she tries to compete, but she prefers SC, Marvel vs Capcom and Tekken...

I just wish you could somehow experience either of these games with lag. You would become frustrated and say the game is broke. If I was responsible for creating either of these games and the fighting engine and gameplay turned to **** I would be embarrassed and upset.

Like I said I would prefer a game with a little lag than no online at all. Why is Virtual tennis online on the Xbox but not on the PS3? Is it because lag would be an issue? I agree online is not for everyone especially those with crappy DSl connections but some of us have a good connections with good latency. A millisecond delay wouldn't kill a game.

Despite the good connection there is still lag, also the reason the 360 has online and the PS3 doesnt is because Microsoft provides the servers for the game where as Sony does not...Sega doesnt want to pay to have the game online...

I know there is still lag but a 0-200 ms is nothing. The lower the better and my pings are usually below 50. No one has a 0 ping but that does not stop Pc gaming  does it.

I agree that it is not a big deal with PC Gaming, but seeing that the developers themselves are hesitant to do it I think their might be a good reason behind not having online with either of these games.

The reason is plain and simple. They don't want to commit the resources for hosting a server etc. It's just an additional cost for them so why bother. Hopefully they don't make the same mistake on the Xbox since MS will provide all the resources.

I hate to break it to you, jwat4, but your opinion is wrong. What you should have said is that it is a shame that games are sacrificing a console multiplayer experience for the an online one when they should be including both.

Thats an interesting idea...an opinion that is wrong?....I dont think I implied that one should be included over then other, I simply stated they are not including offline multiplayer

You specifically said, "If you want online get a PC. At least thats my opinion on the matter." Typically I would agree that opinions are something you cannot justify as right or wrong but when they're an opinion about something that can be proven in some fashion or another they can. In this case you are wrong, very wrong. Video games are more and more being integrated into the online medium as it expands their options, playability, and player communication. It is you that needs to adapt to the change, not the games themselves needing to go backwards in development.

I remember before online gaming came to consoles you would play a game then when you complete it you leave it to collect dust. With online you can play the same game for many years. Do you think people would still be playing games like halo 2 etc still if it was only offline?

Tekken 5 DR uses frames to determin a hit or a miss. Each frame is literally a millisecond. When you begin pressing buttons for a combo or power-move the frame countdown begins. If there is less than a milliseconds lag while playing online, the frame system is futile and players may not be able to execute the moves required to beat an opponent. So, even if online was released with Tekken 5 DR, it would eventually be void of gameplay.

Or maybe Sega and Namco just don't know how to do online for their fighters yet, so they say it can't be done. There's always that possibility.

Bash on DOA4 all you want to, but if you get an opponent with a fast connection it's just like you had your buddy sitting next to you.

Exactly. The problem is Sony does not have the tools for these developers. Hopefully they will get their act together soon.

Okay Boss... I tell you what you prove that my opinion my thought that PC online gaming is superior to Console online gaming and show me a game where the two are exactly the same...a game where you can play up to 64 players online in a game as large as something like BF2...or even bigger like WOW on a console...PCs are far better online than consoles....

Its sad to see such great games loose something that makes them enjoyable, thats the point of a console, to play with multiple people in the same place on the same television. If you want online get a PC. Atleast thats my opinion on the matter.

Battlefield is one of the very few games that support 64 players and that's because of dedicated servers. you cannot host your own battlefield game and have 64 players unless you are willing to spend $200 a month for a server. PC gaming is basically limited to FPS and RTS though and the OP is referring to fighters. If you can name me one PC fighter i would gladly check it out.

Generally true but not in every case , and conan is an mmorpg coming for 360 and ps3 , 360 also has a fpsmmo called huxley in the works , this gen of consoles , actually can out perform alot of pc's out there that have been around for a couple years. Imo vf5 and tekken are not online for mainly one reason ......The ps3 hasnt had an xbl type network around. I bet thats why theres no doa4 port for ps3 yet either. I hear that the ps3 network will be upgraded soon. After that maybe these games will get some online love.

Im not talking to the OP...I have said what I had to say in regards to Tekken and VF5 ....and the fact is unless the developers decide to offer online play, there will be no online play...so non of what any of us say will change anything....

I love how so many people ignore the fact that frame based fighters DO NOT WORK ONLINE. This has NOTHING to do with either sony or microsoft, vf5 will NOT have online play for EITHER console (at the most they will have leaderboards) and they have CONFIRMED this because according to them home internet connections, no matter how good they are have TOO MUCH LAG TO SUPPORT A COMPLEX FIGHTING SYSTEM BASED OFF OF FRAMES. DOA4 IS NOT FRAME BASED AND THEREFORE DOES NOT SUFFER FROM THIS. That is also why it is so easy to button mash in doa4 and not tekken or virtua fighter, sure you can button mash in any fighting game, but in vf and tekken its a death wish because anybody who has played the game for more than 5 minutes will be able to tear you a new one without even breaking a sweat.

They did not deny or confirm it for the xbox. i read a recent article and they refused to comment but said stay tuned for more info. Hopefully it does then I will buy the game. You do know that all online games have lag right but some you will never notice because it's a microsecond. So you are saying a microsecond delay will mess this game up completely. I find that hard to believe. The fact remains that it does not have online gaming because it will be an expense for Sega.
