Okay just got my ps3 but...

Okay so my brother sold me a ps3 slim and then tells me the next day that it was a stolen ps3 that he got from a friend. I haven't opened it yet since I had some suspision, so my question is is can I still use it online without any problems from sony or the cops?

Interesting. The smart thing to do would be to notify the cops and ask if anyone had teir PS3 stolen. If not then you are just being messed with.

I would imagine if it has been reported and a serial can be tracked and you sign it up then you could get caught.

It should be fine, but if for some god forsaken reason you get in trouble on PSN cuz they happen to tell if its stolen, you can just be like em.. bought it frommy brother, I had no idea it was stolen. Your brother cant be like well I told him it was stolen, cuz then he let the cat outta the bag.

It should be fine. I doubt the original owner registered it. Just as long there's no PSN accounts active from previous owners on that PS3, then you're good. But if there is, you should deactivate the accounts and delete them.

I had one of the original 80 gigs with bc get stolen from me. the cops did nothing useful whatsoever. i seriously doubt that a sealed one has a psn account either. i wouldnt worry too much about it. plug it in at your brothers house if your so worried the man is gonna beat down your door as soon as you turn it on. have fun enjoying someone elses pain.

Just use it and explain your story if you get caught. I wouldn't be the least bit worried.

Doubt i could do it... Jeez i mean some guy lost 300 bucks? How can people sleep at night with that on their mind? Think about it? What if its a 10 year old boy and now he is forced to watch the box of Killzone 2 or Little Big Planet or whatever his parents bought along? I mean how can you sleep?

Seriusly, rep it to the cops. If it aint stolen whatever, you will get it back and have clear conscience. But if its stolen, you did the right thing...
