So it seems that just about every RPG on the PSP is an action RPG (like Crisis Core or Star Ocean). And truthfully I am tired of them. Is there any decent turnbased RPGs for the PSP?

I know there is the first two Final Fantasys remade and they were good(own them both). FF7 was also more of an action RPG because it was always moving.(Downloaded FF7 off PSN, like I said, not really my style. Would have liked it more with a traditional turnbased battle sytem.)

So what good oldschool, turnbased, (preferably non JRPG, but still welcomed) RPGSs are there for the PSP.

PS. no Grid based RPGs (ex. FF tacticts, Disgiea)

Crimson Gem Saga, GS gave it a bad score, but it's a really good old school RPG. IGN gave it a 8.4 if that means anything.

i don't know of many that fit the bill, the psp isn't really well known for it's turn based rpg's. get a super nintendo? lol seriously though, there really aren't that many out there. if you have a ps2 you could check out Final Fantasy X, it's turn based.

I think he was referring to the fact that FFVII uses the Active Time Battle, with the gauge that fills before the character can move. This is opposed to older classics like dragon warrior or the like that one character made a move, the next made a move, the next made a move, etc without any interruption. when it was that characters turn, it was their turn indefinitely.

I was about to go WTF on him... FF7 is THE BEST RPG OF ALL TIME and it is COMPLETELY TURNBASED. I don't know what ff7 you played but it sure as hell wasn't the one I played.

Its still a turn based game. You don't see anyone running around the battlefield swinging their weapon as often as you pushed the X button.

i know, but everyone was misunderstanding. It is a variation of turn based, but not traditional as the OP asked. It's called Active Time Battle and it still has the same basic setup as the traditional battle system, however your speed stat effects how quickly your ATB gauge fills up, not which turn comes in order. Also, it means that instead of waiting while someone takes a turn like in traditional battle systems, the ATB allows for a more dynamic and fluid battle because of the constant filling and recharging of the ATB gauge. There is usually a setting to change it so time freezes when you navigate the menu, but it is absolutely different than traditional. I suppose even my earlier recommendation of Final Fantasy X wouldn't quite be the traditional. I never said Real Time Battle, or Action-RPG, like Zelda or something.

Crimson Gem Saga. If you don't mind a bit of challenge, that is. There are some really stupid stuff in this game that keeps it from being all great (for one thing, dungeons are HORRIBLE) but all in all, it's a cool game.

Thanks for the responses. The battle system in FF7 is the Active Battle System like a previous user stated. This is the only reason that i didn't enjoy FF7 as much as i could have.(i still loved the story). I will look into Crimson Gem Saga and Brave Story.

Anymore sugestions would be greatly appriciated.
