wow, my first lasted a year and I'm about 6 months into my second still living one. So far it works fine. I clean it even more now.4th ps3 here. (3 died I need a 4th) blu ray drive just died on factory replacment refurbished. I dont want to pay another 150 for another refurbished what can I do?ApocaLypse805
youtube, find bluray drives compatible with ps3 and how to replace it.....ebay buy the blu ray drive...go to a hardware store if you need screwdrivers believe me you will...get your bluray drive....back on youtube watch learn listen and follow directions
either you have the worlds worst luck, or you need to take a little better care of you ps3.
sorry you've had problems though. just make sure it has room to breathe, the vents are clear, and it's clean.
Oh come on. You're kidding right? If you take proper care of your PS3, it will take care of you. :Pim scared now i was gonna get a ps3 but apparently they suck...i still got my ps2

Try replacing the blu-ray lens yourself, it's not too bad if you have any experience working with hardware components of computers. Reassembly is a little tricky, but go slow. Mine still freezes up occassionally, I think I just have a faulty PS3. I am very unhappy with Sony's customer support at this point, and I'm not sure if I would purchase another when this one goes up in flames.
i just leave my ps2 sitting there adn dont dust it and it works just fine...we should be able to sue for them not making good ps3's;)
My suggestion is that you should take better care of your console. -_-

I kind of find this offensive. I mean who are you to assume that anyone is mistreating their ps3? I had a launch 60 gig and it died about 2 months ago ... got a refurbished one from sony and the blu ray drive went out on it this month ... luckily the warranty doesn't expire until July. Still, just because someone's ps3 dies doesn't mean the owner isn't taking care of it. The 60 gigs are the most faulty version of every singe ps3 sku. On top of that I have over 50 games and treat my ps3 and other the two systems (won't name them here because we're in the sony forums) like I was a bomb tech and they were a bomb that could go off at any minute. I would really appreciate that in the future you don't assume someone is intentionally breaking their console or mistreating it. Thank you.
All I can say is that....Your doing something wrong. :P raven_squad
All I can say is that ... everyone's situation is different but you can't assume that someone is doing wrong ... they were just extremely lucky ... either that or you weren't fortunate enough to get a launch 60 gig ... or again you were lucky

...what? If you maintain proper conditions for your PS3, play it for a reasonable amount of time each session, and insure that its in a properly cooled environment, theres no way you could go through 4, or even 3 of them. None. One I can see, as no piece of tech is perfect. I can possibly even see 2. 3 or 4? I'm guessing its you.[QUOTE="jbc7343"]

Daaaaaaaaaaam you snapped :lol:lol sorry about that ... just kinda irritates me. I just went out yesterday and bought an 80 gig so yeah I'm not too happy ... I really didn't mean to take any anger out on anyone but seeing this just rubs me the wrong way

I don't care how good you treat your console ... if you have a 60 gig ... it's bound to fail ...
Sorry for talking to you like an idiot but sometimes it's only the way people in these forums will even begin to understand an intelligent adult.

I'm an intelligent adult myself, and I've been working around computers and other significantly advanced technology for years upon years. I've never had a device fail on me more then once. Because I twake gwood care of my stuff. :| By the way, all that crap you said about the blu-ray drive? Pointless. I know people with launch day 60 gigs. They leave em horizontal, lift em off the surface of the entertainment center, play em a reasonable 5 hours a day max, and they're working like the day they unpackaged them.[QUOTE="jbc7343"][QUOTE="raven_squad"]All I can say is that....Your doing something wrong. :P raven_squad

With that said ... when my first consol died two months ago (YLOD) I sent it in ... I wrote down my serial number to compare it with the new console I was gonna get ... it was the same one ... then the drive went out ... so maybe it was just time ... I don't know about you if you were in my boat (you're apparently not) you wouldn't want someone on a forum who you don't know telling you that you don't know what you're doing and you're the one breaking it. As a respone to you above (edit button wouldn't work) ... as I said earlier. Some people are just extremely unlucky. Besides I'm sure the reason why the TC created this thread was maybe for someone support. I for one have come to gamespot plenty of times venting about something video game related looking for some support from fellow gamers ... telling someone they're doing something wrong is now what they're looking for. Oh, and I wasn't calling you an idiot ... it was just a generalization.

So that would be the second time it broke. Within reason. Surely you got a different model after the second time, and it won't happen again, right? I said when its gets up into the third or fourth time, your doing something wrong.[QUOTE="jbc7343"][QUOTE="raven_squad"] ...what? Well I appreciate that. :D Didn't want to look stupid on the forums. Plently of people to do that for me.
Oh, geez, this topic is just asking for all the random people to come in saying "I am on my third" or "I am on my 2nd but decided to sell it" comments.
Have to love the random people who probably don't have the console to come in and say that, then again, thats just an assumption.
Anywho, I have never seen a PS3 break or even shut down randomly even though I have played my friends PS3 at least for 15 hours straight. So its either something you are doing, or you are doing something.

This sounds like a power problem. How did the other 2 die? Maybe you should invest in a good surge protector, and if the other 2 had the same failure you may want to have someone come and check the wiring where you live and make sure everything is grounded properly.
Ironic for me though, my parents bought mine but I treat it like a golden statue since they won't replace it lol.I think you guys don't respect your PS3 or how much it cost your parents to get one. Because if you had to pay for it you would still be on your first PS3.

Well... my 60gig is doing fine as is the majority of the other users here. And I bought mines refurbished off ebay about 2yrs ago and I recently upgraded to a 320gig hd. Either you have really bad luck, you're not taking care of it (compressed air, good ventilation...etc.), or you dont have a ps3. As much as I wanna believe you've gone through a few ps3's, you never mentioned if you had a 20,40,60, or 80gig ps3, whether or not sony sent you a direct replacement (60gig for 60gig) or indirect (60gig for 80gig) or whatever you got. Again I wanna believe but I cant
