Yeah it would suck but at least the hardware would survive.
#1) The CORE RAW OS is burned into memory firmware.
#2) Updates to the OS occur at the HARD DISK LEVEL.
So worst case is your Hard Disk would be corrupted and the PS3 would simply reformat the system.
You would lose all your game saves, files, and stuff but the machine would be fine.
This type of update occurs from microsoft with their horrible Windows XP Security Patch Updates every week, right?

Well if you worry about that then you should protect your investment with a UPS. Then there are no worries. Besides it doesnt cost but 30-50 dollars to get a UPS worth about 10 minutes.budboarder

APC is a good brand for UPS - that's what I use... but I wouldn't go for the cheapest one like that. Spend a little bit more on a UPS that's slightly more beefy and you will not regret it...especially if something bad happens
