1. yes

2. Hook it up to the net, make an account, put in the game play online.

3. Yes, some are playable, some aint, but sony produces new updates to make them compatible.

4. It will ask you to update automatic if a new update is on, just to click on install. However you mighhave to go online to be asked if the Update is required.

i dont have a PS3 but i did my research i hope it helped..future PS3 owner(waiting for pricedrop)

1) Yes online is free and is a briliant experience, no lag, friends list, game updates etc
2) Works alike xbox live, you can join a game through friends list (in game) or search for games, make games or join ranked games
3) There are settings on the PS3 to adjust what happens when you put a disc in, as standard when you put the disc in it will launch the game, music or video. However a simple setting change lets you put a disc in then...then nothing will happen. This is handy if you want to copy CD's to your PS3 or images etc
4) Depending on where you buy your PS3 (UK,USA,Japan etc) PS2 games that play the PS3 vary. But more and more PS2 and PS1 games are becoming playable with future updates. Also to get game saves from PS1/PS2 games onto your PS3 you will need to purchase an adaptor.
4) Updates are easy. If your PS3 is connected to the interent you can do it straight from your console, if not you can download the updates from you PC put them on a memory stick or even your ipod and plug that into your PS3 and follow the steps. In future you will be able to get a PS3 mag with a demo disc which will also contain the updates

Any more questions just post away

*Edit*
If anyone reading this has PS3 related questions, i own one and would be happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge, im on my PS3 right now typing this so it wouldn't take long for me to check anything, just Gamespot PM me

Thibaut again.

Thank you very much on answering my questions but some things aren't cleared up yet.

-To get online, do i have to click an option in the system or take a cable and put it on my computer to get online? (a friend of mine told that.)

-To update my PS3, is it the same way like the line above?  (put a cable on my computer)

-When my PS3 is updated, is it possible to play more PS2 games?

I would highly recommend going for one now. Not only are the games great but has anyone noticed how many Blue-Ray movies that are being released now. Granted Sony does own some of the main film studios and most of the ones they don't own are teaming up with them to have there movies produced on Blue-Ray disc. As for price drop it may be years for that to happen seeing that Sony is still selling the PS2 and people are beginning to trade there other console up to a PS3 due to reliability issues

yea guys your not answering his question rofl

You can connect you PS3 to the internet by using a cable from your PS3 to your outer/PC like your mate said, or you if you have a wireless conection your PS3 can pick it up and connect straight to the internet through that no cables needed. I dont know much about networking so i cant help you any further witht aht. But setting up your PS3 to play online and surf the web is easy as!

Yea aparently the more updates that come out for PS3 the range of PS2 and PS1 games increases. There is a site that will tell you if your games will work with the PS3, im a bit busy revising for GCSE's atm but im sure you can find it on google

post any more questions lol

Yea the PS3 web broswer is pretty niffty for what it is. I can wait for them to update the flash player though, then we can use web based MSN woooo, MSN is the only reason i need go onto a PC these days

1. yes going online is free. you have to connect an ethernet cable into your router or connect to your router wirelessly and make a connection under Network Settings on your ps3. then you must make a PSNID. which is your ID for playing games. then you're set.

2. you can put them on your ps3, but you have to buy a Mem Card adaptor. its around $10-20.

3. yes. you just put them in. most of your ps2 games should work. but a very few amount dont, but future updates will be fixing that.

4. you go under Settings on your ps3 XMB and select System Update. then follow the update instructions and wait for your ps3 to update. pretty east.

and you're welcome.

If your still stuck i'll see you in a few weeks
If you get it working add me on PSN (friends-list) I'll show you how killing works in Resistance Fall of man lol
