Hello all,

I have been watching videos and video reviews about Infamous:SS, while the games does look great I am 50/50 on it. It looks like it may get repetitive and fall into the open world trap of generic missions. For those of you that own it, does it have enough variety to keep the game feeling fresh?

I guess it depends on your taste. Me personally, I LOVED IT enough to get every trophy and 100% the game twice. The story was fun, the missions were Great and the Powers were amazing. Characters are awesome and the visuals are beautiful! Only downside is, the game is short.

@Gatman32: If you liked inFamous 1 and 2 then you'll love this game. It's got it's downsides, it doesn't have the variety in enemies like 1 does and it doesn't have the greater variety in missions like 2 does. However, as a superhero origins story it's better than either 1 or 2 and the character development is better even if it feels a little less comic-bookish then either of it's predecessors. It's biggest strength other than interesting characters is the amazing variety of powers that gives you so much to work with. It truly is a sandbox where you get to "enjoy your powers". I love it overall, however, yes it is short.

If you are on the fence, you can always wait a few months and pick it up for $30 or so. That way you aren't really losing a lot if you don't like it.

Yeah he could wait, but I doubt this game will be 30 anytime soon. I mean look at the launch games, they are still over $40.

Not if you buy used. I bought 4 games in January when I got my PS4, all used. Most I paid for each was $36.

I'm really liking it.. The repeating side missions aren't a big deal to me because they are so short.. Each mission is around a minute or less to complete.. The game-play is super fun, but the story is pretty zzzzzzzzzz.

I take it not from gamestop? I suppose I was being specific to gamestop. Even Knack is 54.99 used there. Unless they have a sale. Either way you got a good deal man.

@Gatman32:

If you played the other inFamous games then you will like the new one. Also if you can rent it through Red Box or Gamefly than do that first to see if it is worth buying. I thought that inFamous Second Son was awesome and I will rate it a 9/10. I have completed the game through the good playthrough and now I am going to do an evil playthrough.

@marcheegsr: Amazon. It is much better because you buy from other gamers directly. At least most of the time.

Did you play Infamous 2? It's a lot like that game both in game design and structure, but with new characters, better powers and more polish.

I enjoyed the game a lot, but I'll admit it got very repetitive about half way through.

Its not a perfect game but its the best 60 game PS4 has. It gets really fun when you get more powers but it does get repetitive. I would agree with gamespots review. Well worth the money in my opnion.

i want to like it, because its fun and the physics/particle effects are wonderful. but theres a serious lack of content, even if you go to 100% the game it won't take you very long. seriously, you can probably beat it in like 5 hours. 10 if you do both karma sides. 25+ if you go for platinum trophy

there just arent enough side quests i think, the other infamous games had tons. there was also a ton of enemy variety. now theres like 5 types of enemies, all concrete based

and the side activities, besides taking down the dup generator things, are just repetitive and not really engaging

A major change I thought that wasn't for the better was the glass shards. They were basically given to you with nothing even remotely hard to get. I enjoy the challenge of a tricky climb to obtain a shard.

Assassin's Creed has also taken this type of easier path with no difficult climbs, which to me are some of the more rewarding parts of these games.

The first playthrough with your chosen Karma is fantastic although it does become repetitive, but still fun. The second playthrough with a different karma really lacks any excitement though, it's just a case of going through the motions.

All up it's a great game, it just loses it's sparkle a touch quicker than I would have liked.

I didn't enjoy it, to be fair, I just felt like all I was doing throughout was clearing up the map, Never felt how infamous was, people booing or cheering the people in the world are so stale, I felt the world was pretty dull, but the graphics are amazing, I just honestly cannot of the life of me get into it, like i did the original one, nothing next gen about the gameplay or AI, it's basically a really really good looking game.

If you want an easy plat trophy (I know that matters to a lot of people for whatever reason) then Infamous: Second Son is the game for you. It really is a good game. Not the best and certainly not the worst.

I say wait.

The game gets tedious and repetitive after 5-6 hours.

@ShepardCommandr:

almost every game is the same, if you like the mechanics, you do not get stuck on repetition... it's like if you play one shooter, then you have played them all, if you played an rpg, you've played them all, their mechanics are more or less the same, etc etc etc... :)

If you played the first two InFamous games than this game repeats the same formula. The Main missions vary enough to keep them interesting, but the side missions for each area are basically the same over and over. So basically is like most open world games.

If you have Gamefly where you are located TC why not rent it and try it out? It's a much better option than spending $60 and not liking the game. Also Gamestop has sort of an used game trial policy if you have one close by. Buy the game used from them and if you don't like it you can usually return it within the first 7 days.

Don't hesitate to buy it. It's super fun, funny & beautiful. I was particularly impressed with the clever and witty dialogs, the motion & facial capture and the masterful performances by the actors. All of that was very so-so in previous inFamous entries, so it became my favorite inFamous game yet. It's short, but worth every penny and I will keep playing it after reaching 100% (currently I am at 97%) for a second time. That shows you how good it is.

I think the game is worth $60. Though I wish it was longer. Here's hoping that the Paper Trail has a decent mission at the end. Plus, I want paper damn it.

It's a great game for as long as it lasts, sadly it doesn't last long. They really needed to add a good bit more game in the middle there. It seems to reach it's end way too quickly, and their is not much that is meaningful to do post-story. The side missions become insanely repetitive and boring after a while, and the black and white karma system feels like an outdated mechanic. I'd wait for it to hit $30 if I were you, their isn't sixty dollars worth of game here, imo.

I was going to create a thread that asked this very question. Loved Infamous 1, have yet to break the seal on 2, but thinking this might be my first PS4 game!

The game was really fun, but a 100% play through took me maybe 12 hours? I'd wait for a price drop, or rent it if you can? Definitely worth playing though.

I'm on the fence too. The most problematic to me is having different powers with separate trees, meaning you'll split your XP between them. So you'll get the first power, ivest XP in it, then discover a new power, put XP in it, then a third one, put XP in it ... Then just like one and regret spending XP in the others ... And it seems annoying to have to find a power source to change powers too, if you have these powers, why not just change when you want?

And I guess some opponent are weak or resistant to a power or another, which will make you run around, change power, and again as some groups will be mixed, far from my idea of having fun playing a game.

I really loved both inFAMOUS 1 and 2 but, unfortunately, I found Second Son to be somewhat boring, with bland characters, repetitive missions, and a general lack of things to do; overall a step back for the series. Were it not for a lack of games to play (for me) on PS4, I may not even have finished Second Son.

To me it feels like Sucker Punch's goal was to impress graphically with tons and tons of particles and pretty colors, while forgetting that a game must be fun, interesting and make the player feel interested in what they're doing, something I feel it lacks, especially when compared to the first two entries in the series.

I personally felt little reason to explore the world and, outside of clearing up a couple of "side missions", playing post-credits felt pointless. I also have a real problem with an open world game not having a real-time day/night cycle, nor dynamic weather. For a game who's world struggles with feeling alive as it is (IMO), having static time of day and weather certainly doesn't help matters.

Oh, and even though it's not really a big deal, what happens when you fall in water is ridiculous, IMO.

I'm certainly not trying to say it's a bad game or that I didn't like it at all, I just think it's the weakest entry in the series and a far cry from what it could've/should've been.. If I had to score it I would give it between a 6.5-7.

If what you're seeing creates even some doubt I suggest waiting to get it on sale; lessen the chance you'll be dissatisfied. "Buy when the price matches my interest" is my moto.

I just completed the game a couple of minutes ago and I would rate it a solid 8.

Most of the people who have contributed to this topic are correct regarding the length of the game, graphics, and overall lack of variety in the missions.

The story was alright...at least it got more interesting towards the end for me. The characters were alright. Nothing lovable or memorable about them.

PS4 is starved for good games and at the very least, this is a good one. Excellent sound design and I found the powers to be unique, original, and enjoyable.

It's a good, fun game. There's not much depth and to be honest, I don't really have any intention of replaying the game after getting 100% on my first play through. No regrets though...a solid foundation has been built and the inevitable next game in the series should be really good.

I'd wait out for a sale and see if I could pick up the game for $40.

That said, I'd like to see some more features added in the future:

1. Lock-on to enemies (Melee combat is pretty mediocre in this series. This is an aspect of the game that could make the combat so much more satisfying)

2. Ability to switch powers on the fly (a la Devil May Cry 3)

3. The ability to transport from one area of the city to the other provided you've unlocked the checkpoint. It was ridiculous for me to have to run around the whole city and waste 5 minutes, AFTER finishing the game to get the Comet Drop Trophy...

4. More variations in missions!

5. A better karma system. Let's face it, the karma system sucks.

It's a really great looking game with some improvements to the series in the Gameplay department, but the story is so-so, and it does get rather 'samey' by the end. I will remember it as a graphical showpiece and little else.

I'm waiting for it to price drop. I never bothered playing the second game and don't care for running around in sandbox world pummeling crap over and over again. I know the graphics and physics are probably amazing but I can wait until it's dirt cheap to even bother with it. At this point I just want RE7, don't care about much else.
