I just purchased a new 42" plasma today, but it won't be delivered until Friday. I'm new to the whole HD stuff, and I'm trying to order HDMI cables off of the internet to get them cheap. I was told to go to monoprice and I found a 6 ft. male to male 28AWG cable for less than $5. This is what I need to hook up my PS3, right? I havn't seen the back of my new TV yet, so I wasn't sure if I was supposed to get male to male or not. Any help???

No offense, but I think you got ripped. You can read about the EXTREME price markups on HDMI cables all over the internet. The stores get them for like $5 and then mark them up to hike profits. If I get ripped out of $5, so what? I know this place is reputable anyways. I just need to know is it a male to male cable or a male to female. There have been comparisons on the $5 cables with the $100 cables with no differences noticed. HDMI is a digital cable. As long as the signal gets there it is the same. Not the same as analog cables. (Component, Composite, SVideo, etc.)

BTW, when you say HDMI are sexless, is that a joke, or are you saying that they are all male to male and not ever male to female? Because, even though I have read all about the price hikes, I do not know about it that much. Thanks to anyone with an answer.

I got my cables from a retailer and I didn't pay a whole lot for them (around $30.00) and have never had a problem with them. Although the $5.00 cables would be same it was just that I try to support local retail outlets when I can.

yes sometime they are male to female, this guy is giving you false info

male to male is what you need for the PS3 to connect to your tv

good that you are smart enough not to pay more than 10 bucks for one as HDMI is digital so either it works or doesnt no matter what the brand
