Hi guys, will be buying a samsung 226BW monitor sometime soon for my pc and ps3. Everything works with it and the ps3, but it has no speakers, so i'll need to use the optical out cable.

I was gonna use my pc speakers with it, but theyre stereo with a 3.5mm stereo jack plug. So my question is this - can I get an optical male to 3.5mm female adaptor anywhere? I'm not sure what type of optical cable i'll need, and will the stereo output have to be converted to optical somehow first?

Any help greatly appreciated.

i seriously doubt it, though, if your pc speakers have the red and white inputs, you could use your standard ps3 AV cable to output sound.

if you are using a digital connection, you can manually set the audio to go through the analog RCA out, just plug in the cable it comes with, and only use the red and white, and you can convert those to 3.5mm head phone,

To convert optical (digital) audio to analog stereo you need a device called a Digital to Analog Convertor.  DACs are not cheap at all!

Do what the guy says above and just use the audio out from your composite cable.

Best thing to do is just output in composite. Most speaker have the RED,WHITE jacks on the ps3. Just set the output to that and use the crappy cable that came with the PS3 for audio =]. Its what i do.

Ok then great, now I just have to find an RCA to 3.5mm coupler, as my speakers unfortunately dont have RCA input - theyre pretty old... Will get myself some new ones soon anyway.

The best thing is use the composite cables that come's with the PS3 (the red/white ones).

And computer speakers usually only have the 3.5mm in so there is a Y-cable to convert the RED/WHITE to 3.5mm.

I've been searching everywhere for a way to use my optical out from the ps3, but no luck also. Can't believe after many google searches I come back to gamespot to find out to just use the included av cable to just use the audio ports only.
