I'm assuming that's a yes. :P
I don't like to get my stories from summaries though...
You'd probably feel lost initially even if you played HL1, because Gordon Freeman barely knows what's been happening in his absence. That said, I don't think you need to have played the original, all you need is some of the basics like how there was an incident at Black Mesa labs and aliens started teleported in.
However, Half-Life in my book, is one of the most important corner stones in gaming history, so you should really take the time to play it anyways.

Yeah I was thinking of picking it up since it's only like 10 bucks for a used PS2 copy. Does it still hold up well?
Can't really talk about the PS2 version, but I still play the PC version from time to time and the game never ceases to amaze me.Yeah I was thinking of picking it up since it's only like 10 bucks for a used PS2 copy. Does it still hold up well?

you know the one thing EA could have done to make up for there bad port would to have put Half life 1 source on the ps3 version, they have the room to. clarkportmankenNo, because it would be even more embarassing for them when the game had framerate issues in HL: Source :P
i haven't beaten all of the first game but got most of it from a friend who's a half-life whiz
i'm confused about the aliens from xen who help out the survivers
can anyone clue me in on thatGC4ever
***slight spoilers ahead***
The vortigaunts of Xen had been enslaved by the combine as well, but after Freeman killed the Nihilanth, some managed to find refuge on earth and join the resistance.
