most ive done on my system is around 8 (well, about 6 and leaving it on for 2 hours on the XMB). you can tell when it starts overheating, the graphics card will cause the game to get real jumpy....in that case just turn it off for an hour or two.
PS3 is pretty resistant to overheating as long as it has room to breath... I've played for 4+ hrs straight and haven't got any overheating.GreenGoblin2099

Nah! I've played a lot more but yesterday it was about 4 hrs. so that's what it came to my mind :P
I remember beating the second half of Assasins creed and then playing a few hours more of uncharted when suddenly My Ps3 simply turned itself off after more or less 13 hours of non-stop play
