I have a question to ask. In game stores, I see a lot of cooling fans for the PS3. I recently got my PS3 and the thought came to mind. Since there are many fans for it,does the PS3 easily overheat?

No need for cooling fans. Just give it space.

Does not overheat at all and I've had mine on for 10+ hours straight... cooling fans are just a gimmick to sell you more crap you don't need so they can make money.

In fact, some of the cooling fans can cause moisture inside the system as the cool air going in meets the warm air going out and creates moisture. I never got a fan andI never have a problem.

All your PS3, or any console for that matter, needs is breathing space. If your PS3 is on your tv stand in which is in a small confined space, you need to put it out in the open. I have mine on small tables right beside the tvs(I have 2 PS3s), and they never heat up. I used to have one of them in the tv cabinet when I still used to have an sdtv, and it got warm but that all changed when I got my HDTVs. All the PS3 needs is space to ventilate itself, so if you have a coffee table or a small table to put it on beside or in front of the tv, that would be great, so it can get the air that roams free around it, and not absorb the hot air that is confined in the small space that it is stored in. Also, if it is near a heater, or fireplace, or any other source of heat, that is just plain stupid. Don't keep any of your consoles near heat sources because that's just plain dumb. So in general, GIVE YOUR PS3 LOTS OF ROOM TO BREATHE.

LOL, where have you heard of cooling fans doing that. The fans first have to suck the warm air out of the PS3, and then it starts getting cool. There might be some fans that do that but then that will bust up your system. If you find any, please show me?

Those cooling fans are just a gimik to get your money from your hands to someone elses hands. As long as there is space around the PS3 for air to flow it will be fine. This is from someone that never turns the console off when not in use.

The Stores usually have it in a small confined space. GameStops have them in a 1.5 foot cube. My PS3 (60Gig) puts out about 1/2 the heat of my 360, and about the Same Heat as my Wii.

Greetings Karry, as most fine folks already have mentioned it there is no need for a cooling fan. What you need to do is give your PS3 space and room. Away from anything that generates a large amount of heat. (Fireplace, Interior heater and so on).

You want to give it enough room so the hot air can blow out of the PS3 freely. Put in on a separate place where it can be on its own.

Take care of it, and it will take care of you for many years. ^_^

you just need to give some space to your ps3 and there should not be any problems.:)
