I find it strange that every-time I play Uncharted 2 I only can get about 5 minutes of play time with it until my ps3 shuts itself down because of heating issues. This only happens all of the time with Uncharted and rarely with any other game. Is there a reason behind this? I've had to replace my first ps3 and it seems this one is on the verge of getting YLOD as well. I heard it may be due to the cheap thermal paste used on the CPU or GPU? Not sure if that is true or not. Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Something is wrong with your PS3, not the game.

You might as well send it in to get fixed.

I'll probably buy a new ps3 or just go some time without one if it ends up dying on me. I've lost confidence in Sony's repairing or refurbished models since this would be the second time this has happened. I'm just wondering if some games push the PS3 more than others because I find it odd that Uncharted would do it frequently and not some of my other games.

I've heard of some games that stress the ps3 more than others but I don't know if that would be true.

i doubt its the game, it just probably ur ps3 and if i was u id either call sony to send it in or buy a new slim one. i have a old 60gb and bought a slim 120 recently to put less gaming time on the 60gb so it wont die as easily on me or risk the chance of it dyin. i have stopped playin ps2 games once killzone 2 came out and many great games like uncharted and demon souls, so no reason for me to worry about B.C, so i less time on 60gb and more time on slim ps3, and i love the slim its not as ugly as everyone made it out to be lol, i actually like it, grew fond of it lol. but any ways, do u have ur ps3 on a carpet? or a closet space that doesnt give it enough room to breath?

My ps3 is out in the open on a wood surface so there is less build up of heat. The only thing I can think of is that it's been used too much. It's basically shared with 2 other people in my household. It's not on 24/7 but there are days where its on for quite some time. I want to get a slim but I have been researching some info on it and it seems that several people have been experiencing major issues with it. ex. overheating and video output problems just in the first 2 weeks of owning one. I don't really care for B.C. How long have you had your 60 gig? Mine is only 9 months old and it's causing problems.

let me just tell u that some ppl dont mean all ppl. thats a very small percentage, and i owned a slim since it was announced and released to public to purchase actually got it on black friday with 5 games for 299 lol. but anyways its very reliable, its so much quieter than the fat ps3s, alot cooler, meaning the when u touched ur ps3 in the back left corner it wass always hot if u ever did? the slim is alot cooler, ull feel some heat but not as much as the fat one. i been having it on so far for week straight, folding at home, then gaming, then folding at home, then watchin some new bd movies i got then gaming then foldin at home, tomorrow will be the 8th day startin 2nd week thats been one, and to be totally honest with u i had ONE lil thign with it, the game MW2 froze, i had to reboot it and thats it, but i take care of it if im going away or workin for long hrs i cover it with a t-shhirt and make sure nothin gets in it or dust. but hey if u get a slim at least its 300 and u get a year free warranty

let me understand somethin, do u guys play other games and then switch to uncharted 2? or u guys play other games and eventually after a while go to uncharted 2? cuz if u guys are playin for hrs on other games and then switchin that could be just coincidence and u just probable played to much of the other game before u switch, unless u go and turn on ur ps3 u go straight to uncharted 2 and after few min this happens which is very odd, then callin sony is ur only hope cuz i doubt anyone here can help

well it's never auto shut off on me before.. Just so happens I was playing Dead Space for awhile and switched to Uncharted 2.. However, Uncharted 2 have froze on me, on several occasions.. so I wouldn't be surprised if it was what ultimately caused my ps3 to overheat.. That's the thing.. I'm wondering if people still have shutdown problems after they let their ps3 cool down..

You've got extremely bad luck or else your not keeping proper care and/or good ventilation.

Uncharted 2 causes my PS3's fan to become louder than normal but I haven't encountered that kind of problem.

The more demanding the game the more it taxes the hardware and consequently considerable heat is produced. Heat is what wears down a console. Gradually warping the circuit board and weakening solder points. This is more an issue in the launch models. I have a 20GB ps3 that has failed twice. 1st time after an uncharted session followed by a blu ray movie the 2nd time playing though far cry. Fortunately I purchased an extended warranty and both instances I got another 20GB ps3. Its not a matter of ventilation either as my ps3 sits alone on a shelf with about a foot on each side of the system.

I'm just worried about my data.. I wonder if I can buy a slim from sony and have the hard drive swapped.. even if I get the ps3 running again.. I'm scared it won't stay on long enough to do data transfer by itself.. it's safe to say.. the slim doesn't have any overheating problems so far right?

Well I have a ps3 silm and it freezes only when I play Socom Confrontation. Which I don't know if its the game or the console, because it freezes randomly and there would be no way to caculate how it plays till it freezes because it varies.

I feel you, my launch 60gig bit the dust a few weeks back....sony sent me a repaired/refurb system that bit the dust in less then a day. I just went on and got the slim, I'm not too mad about the 60gig though,I got my moneys worth out of it.
