Hey, I would just like to know, how many people have parents who dont allow you to play M rated games?

fortunately, my parents dont give a damm about the games I play, I mean the only one who could start yelling is my mom, but nothing more, I remember this time I was playing dead space and she came inside the room, and she saw the necropmorph and she said "OMG AREN'T YOU SCARE TO PLAY THOSE SATANIC GAMES?!!!!! LOOK AT THAT HORRIBLE DEMON!!!!!" then the monster killed me and desmembered me, my mom was like

and my dad...welll its kinda the same...I was playing GTA4 and I was on the highway then I crashed against something and niko flew out of the car and he died and my dad said "that is horrible! whats the name of that horrible thing?!"

but nothing more, they allow me to buy M rated games, and I agree on that, sorry but I just dont get why some parents dont allow their childrens to play M rated games...

as if that would stop the kids from receiving or seeing the everyday violence, language and situations nowadays.

they should just restrict them to players with mental sickness, who CAN get HEAVILY influenced by the games they play.

so, what about you, your parents allow you play M rated games?

i think it would depend WHY its rated M for whether or not id let my kids play(when i have kids). some games have ridiculous language/sexual content/gore just for the sake of it. these are the types of games i wouldnt let them play until i feel theyre mature enough to handle it.

I would only have a problem if the game contains a lot of nude scenes. GTA IV does not have any nude scenes (cept for LaD but that is for 360) and it does mentions sexual content but like I said, its nothing that the kids havent heard off already, nowadays every single kid in first grade or kinder garden has watched porn and yeah that's really sad...

My mom cares but I understand why I shouldn't be playing rated M games (I'm 21). My mom got really upset when she saw the box for Killzone 2 so I hardly ever play that game and so the only other game I have played that is M is the metal gear franchise. So its not that I just don't play rated M games its just that most M games these days are just gore fests and I'm happy avoiding that.

I'm an adult and live on my own. I can buy whatever I want. My parents have always been pretty lenient with M-rated games though. They understand it's just a game and not real.

just because kids have experienced something doesnt mean you should let them do it. i'll probably be really strict about this, having played many games myself and as such knowing what is often contained in them.

i would just tell my parents that we need to be prepared if something like these is ever to be happened in the future. [eg. how to escape from gang wars like in gta or kill a necromorph if i ever become traped in space]

but i am not so sure if they would buy that.

my mom and dad loves watching me play violent games, but not nude scenes. all they say is "wow, this looks almost real".

yeah I get your point...but this are just videogames and most of them not even contain sexual scenes, as for the gore, I couldn't care the less about it, the kid wont pick up a chainsaw and start killing everything that moves

Assassins Creed 2 is the easiest game to get from parents even if they are against killing innocent people cause u learn some history in it.

it really would just depend on the game, their age, and how MUCH gore there is. and id probably play it too to make sure it wasnt over the top. my kids are gonna hate me =P

Hahah, she saw the M on the box and then looked on the back cover for more details I couldn't say anything in defense to the gore. Whats worse is she looked at Uncharted 2 and tried to get me to stop playing that as well. I don't mind not playing Killzone 2 but Uncharted I will fight for, lol.

yeah cuz I mean...my cousin, the guy went to space and he got killed by an alien race! that could have been avoided if his parents would have allowed him to play dead space!!!!. now seriously, ever since I got the HDTV...my mom and dad are always amazed and with a smile on their faces when they see me playing. they say "it looks so real!!!!" I was playing GTA4 in front of my mom, cops were chasing me and my mom was like "RUNN!!! GET OUT OF THERE!!!!" and I see this car, and I try to enter, the car was locked so niko smashed the window, and my mom said "woahh that was violent!"

D4NZEL-709
in assassins creed 2 you dont kill innocent people, every guy you kill is a bad guy (main assassanation target). and as a matter of fact if you kill innocents, you get a HP penalty. and the history... I wouldn't be too sure about it, since in AC1 the events were really fictional and desmond said "this events didnt occurred in history, why can I see them?" and warren answers "they occurred, but some people wanted this moments to remain hidden, so they wrote false stories about what really happened" (for example the death of robert sabre, in real history robert sabre didnt got killed by a white-cloaked man in a duel in pressence of king Richard) and I believe it will be the same in AC2

It was my first FPS so yeah I had some fun with it. My mom actually saw me play the game sometimes but for some reason never said anything, I guess because it was either paused or no one got their head blown off. I played the game so much I guess I just got over it. I even got the trophy for top 1% for the week and beat it on Elite, not bad for my first FPS, heh. But I have Uncharted 2 now so I hardly miss the game.

i remember when mortal kombat came out on the snes and genesis and i decided to get it on the genesis cus it had blood in it. my parents wer fine with it . reason being they raised me with some sense and knew i would notgo outside with my older brothers and sisters and throw a knife with a rope tied around it at them. but now times have changed and i am a father myself i do realize the kids of this era are more easily influenced. the only time i let my 7 year old son play a M rated game is when i am playing it with him. other than that its ratchet and clank or the many psn games.

its really how the parents view it. if they trust you(as they should) they shouldnt have a problem with it.

That's horrible reasoning. So any kid should be able to walk into any film of any rating without a care in the world because 'hey, what they see in the movie isn't any worse than the things their exposed to in real life right? Oh except for all those kids with a sign on their back that reads "I can't see high rated films as they have aheavy impact on my mind."'

I'm 21 so I can get whatever I want, but I personally think the rating in games is a very good thing and should be enforced as such. If a parent chooses that it's okay for their children to be exposed to that kind of material, that's one thing. Buy the game for them the same way you'd buy a movie ticket. But I'm very tired of all the stories of parents complaining of the violence contained in video games when it's clearly written on the back of the box and all over the internet. You hesitant on the game you're child is requesting? Do some research on it.

Any parent worth a darn would definetly care as to why the game is rated M. I am a parent and am definitely going to be careful as far as what games my son plays. I sure as heck would not let a 13 year old play something that had a lot of violence or bad language.

and why is that? its just something obvious, put a kid to play games like call of duty of killzone, they will not pick up an assault rifle and start killing everyone near them. parents are not idiot if they buy M rated games to their childrens under the age of 15. they are INTELLIGENT parents who know that nothing will happen to the boy when he plays the game. I have played ultra gory games like RE since I was 6 and now im 16 and im a completly normal boy and I havent severed some guy member

oh yeah I loved when I went to the movies with my friends and we bought tickets for a kids movie, then when we were about to enter to the hall, we kept going until finding the hall where the 18+ was being shown =D Sometimes the people who rate movies just dont know what to do. I mean, terminator 3 and every single "the matrix" movie was rated 18+ terminator 3 didnt had any sex scene, it just had action and minimal gore (the most gory part being where the "fembot" killed those cops by pulling her hand through their chest) and the matrix, with exception of the matrix reloaded should have definitly being a 12+ movie since it didnt had any sex scenes (once again, im not including the matrix reloaded in that one because that one DID had sex scene) or any strong gore even the lord of the rings had more gore than the matrix, yet it was always a 12+ movie

Well of course you would say that. Every gamer says that. You're just trying to defend your choice of entertainment by rationalizing cause you think an attack on videogames is an attack on you.

My parents never really cared if I played M rated games when I was younger and it was the same with watching violent films. I suppose its because I've always been responsible and they knew that I wouldn't be influenced by it.

+1

to TS ; if your parents don't want you playing M rated games it's probably because they think you can't handle it and with some of the things you've said in this thread i'd be apt to agree with them.

Well my 12 year old just completed Prototype and also plays Saints Row 2. My 9 year old please GTA and Saints Row 2 among other things. As long as balance is achieved and they understand the difference between games and real life (if they don't then I've failed as a parent) then I don't see the problem. There is no definitive evidence to suggest kids are affected by the games they play.

Even my nearly 4 year old shoots "Nazi Zombies" on CoD and thinks it's funny!!

The other point to parents worried about language - don't you go into school playgrounds when you pick your kids up?? I used to swear fluently when I was a kid and I didn't have any access to material above my age - my parents were very strict!!!

yeah it was the same for me... I mean...the parents who dont allow their children to play gameswith language...they believe that their kids are saints or something like that. believe me in school or even kinder garden your childrens are exposed to swearing and all that stuff from kids, and no im not saying something like "if they already know that then why to restrict it to them?" im just saying, that if parents actually think that they can stop their children from swearing by not allowing them to play games with language...then they are failing badly because it certainly wont stop your kids from saying the F word a lot...

[QUOTE="lightleggy"] sigh....yet other parent who believes his kid will shout bad language every 5 seconds for playing a game with bad language... http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27098189&page=1&tag=topics;page;2#quick_quoteyour kid is 13, you should allow him to play gory games with language...I just dont see whats so wrong about it, like I said I have been playing ultra gory games since I was 6 and I dont have any trauma, phobia, or havent harmed a person because I played those gameslightleggy

Well of course you would say that. Every gamer says that. You're just trying to defend your choice of entertainment by rationalizing cause you think an attack on videogames is an attack on you.

yeah it just makes me mad to see the parents saying all that BS about videogames having negative effects on you... btw...you said you were 21...and your mom dont allow you playing M rated games O.O?

Penalty for still living at home. Of course if I really wanted to I could play as much M rated games as I want, my mom knows that. She never tells me I'm not allowed to play the game but uses reasoning and obvious undeniable logic to help me understand why she doesn't like it or what kind of example I would be setting for others. I work at schools and my passion for working stems from wanting to help others. How can I teach kids from 3 years old all the way up to 18 year olds to become neighborly citizens if what I constantly put into my system is hatred and violence,...its hypocritical.

And saying videogames do not affect me is just straight up denial. No matter who you are, what is around you will affect you to some degree. Others get affected more than others depending on how strong the counteracting force is to that person. Most people that play violent videogames don't go out and kill others because they have been taught very strongly that killing is wrong. But what about the other stuff thats in videogames; language, sex, crime. Today there isn't really a strong counteracting force that steers us to not use foul language and so more and more people start using it.

I'm planning on making my kids stick with Nintendo until they are at least 14. :P

I'm not saying letting a 12 year old play M-rated games is necessarily going to have negative effects, but it's definitely not going to have positive ones.

Yes they do, however they draw the line at most titles from rockstar. it all depends on wether they think there child can handle it i suppose. my parents think me mature enough in mind to play more mature titles and not get twisted and go on a killing rampage

[QUOTE="lightleggy"][QUOTE="D4NZEL-709"] in assassins creed 2 you dont kill innocent people, every guy you kill is a bad guy (main assassanation target). and as a matter of fact if you kill innocents, you get a HP penalty. and the history...

Assassins Creed 2 is the easiest game to get from parents even if they are against killing innocent people cause u learn some history in it.

I think it's funny that many people would rather have their kids see extreme violence than two consenting adults have sex.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Why are we all ashamed of our bodies in this country?

"Dad, can I get this game?" The litte boy asks.

"No, son it shows two seconds of boobies." The father replies

The boy scratches his head and spots another game. "Well, how about this one?" He asks.

His father picks it up and looks at the back of the case. "Hmm, let me see that junior. It seems in this game all you do is blow soldiers heads off with shotguns and assault rifles. Oh, wait, it also comes with the power tbag feature that let's you get to know your slaughtered enemies better. No longer tbag your enemies the old fashion way. This new feature lets you get right in your enemies face and with....POWER!!!" The father reads outloud with excitement. "This my boy sounds like a good game for you to play!"

the parents aren't failing. the kids are. why let others influence you? be yourself. if you can't develop a vocabulary and have to resort to curse words. you are as dumb as you sound.

we all know that while you are a kid (from age 3-10) you will be influenced by any person you keep a relationship with and its older than you the parents aren't failing. the kids are. why let others influence you? be yourself. if you can't develop a vocabulary and have to resort to curse words. you are as dumb as you sound.

tell me which porn makes porn about MARRIED people? they just put on the street "looking for a huka and a playboy for pr0n movie!!!!!" and they get a bunch of people comming, this people have not known each other, and yet 1 minute after they get introduced to each other, they are wild sex. how is that better than blowing up soldiers with a shotgun and tbagging in their faces?
