Okay, so i've been looking at this monitor Benq G2400W, and since it has the right connections i could hook it up with my Pc and Ps3 at the same time. Anyone got this monitor with their ps3, because i'd like to know how it works with it. Oh and since the monitor doesn't have built in speakers i'd have to buy them, so what kind of speakers do i need to work with ps3 and my Pc?

Monitor homepage: http://www.benq.com/products/LCD/?product=1282&page=specifications

Thanks

i used to play my ps3 on a 24 inch computer monitor which was hooked up to my ps3 and the computer at the same time. I used the hdmi for the ps3 and the dvi for the computer. The dvi is pretty much the same thing as a hdmi cable. Now im playing on a 48 inch tv and I get no lag at all because it has a 2 ms response time which is even faster than my computer monitor that i was playing on.

I used to use the same monitor and speakers for my 360 and PC, but the connections are pretty much the same, except you'll be using HDMI for your video whereas I was using VGA. My speaker solution was a Logitech Z-5500 5.1 system. It has three ports for analog 6-channel audio, this is what all PC games use, it also has a digital optical port for your console. I also used the digital coaxial port for any PC digital needs, such as watching movies with AC-3 encoding.

I have my ps3 connected to a 24 inch hp. It works very well using hdmi. Since the speakers in my monitor are very quiet I have my ps3 set up to output sound from the red and white audio connector and then just use a merger cable to connect my speakers in though a headphone jack. For this to work you have to set it up in the sound options on your ps3. It works very well for me and was very easy.

Thanks, i looked at the topic, and i was kinda shocked about the Asus monitor you were talking about, i looked at the specs and stuff, and it seems to be a perfect monitor for me!

Since it has built in speakers i should get sound by just plugging hdmi-hdmi between the monitor and the ps3, right? It doesn't have as good resolution as the Benq G2400W, but does it still support 1080p? Anyways im pretty sure this monitor is better than the Benq.

simple.. couch + big TV = sitting 100ft away from the action.

comp. chair + small HD monitor = better back support and closer to the action being able to see every detail.

My Set up is 25.5" Samsung Monitor with DVI-HDMI cable and the Logitech Z5500 5.1 speakers with optical cable.

Well since im still in school and stuff i really can't afford a brand new hd tv unless i get a job, but then i wouldn't have time to play the ps3, and i live in Europe so we get to pay more than Americans :). Because i've been a Pc-gamer for.. well a very long time it's better for me this way i guess. Anyways i can use my bed if i don't feel comfortable.

Cool so i don't have to buy a seperate bluetooth mic? Btw. how good is the monitors' mic/camera/speakers compared to the best ones on the market?

Thanks that helped. :)

Moshakirby, in your guide you talk about hdmi - dvi cable between the monitor and the ps3, but i didn't see you mentioning hdmi - hdmi between them, so if i'd have a widescreen monitor with a hdmi connection, couldn't i just use hdmi - hdmi cable? Or do i have to use dvi - hdmi?

Now i just gotta make a desicion about which monitor to buy. I want it to have very good quality, but i don't want to pay loads for it, the Asus seems like the best choise (so far) but i've read so much good stuff about other monitors, and someone just told me on other forum, that the Benq G2400W would be a better choise than the Asus. Anyway one thing is sure, i am going for a monitor.

Well yeah, HDMI - HDMI will do fine, if anything it's better...just in my guide I assume people would know a HDMI - HDMI connection would work..

If you can, get a HDTV, even if it's only 720p, you shouldn't go out and buy a new monitor unless you really can't afford a TV.

You basically need to research the monitors, if they display 1080p, if they have black bars, if the monitor cuts off part of the image or if it shrinks it to size.

I have the Samsung SM205BW;
*Displays 1080p, shrinks it to 1680*1050
*Displays 720p, cuts off a little bit at the edges (because of the different image ratios)
*High response time - though no different from an HDTV's, just other monitors can have better resposne time
*In 1080p a warning will be displayed on the screen for about 15 - 30 seconds, you can remove by pressing one of the buttons on the monitor

5 ms is not a high response time. It's also much lower than an LCD TV, so it should be very good. The fact that the BenQ monitor will be able to support a 1080p signal is nice. The Asus will not be able to do that.

yep, some Dell 22" do too. Apparently though it says that 1050 is the max, it can actually reach 1080. Im getting a Dell 22" for my PS3 and getting the audio with my stereo 3000 of sound power!!!!!

So how is it really, does it support 1080p?

Im 50/50 on those monitors now, Benq is 24" and has better res, but the Asus seems to have better the rest+it comes with the mic. I'd so like to hear a comment from an expert of these things. :)

Btw. Does the Asus monitor create black bars when playing with the ps3? I heard the Benq does, but they are apparently so minimal that it doesn't bother.

You actually want the image to have black bars, because that means the monitor is retaining the same aspect ratio of the signal it receives. A computer widescreen image is 16:10, and the PS3 displays in 16:9, so if the 16:9 image were to take up the entirety of the 16:10 monitor, the image would be slightly warped. That's why it displays black bars.

Check reviews online between the two models and see what the pros say. I would be much more inclined to go with a 24" than a 22 if they were the same price.

Also why would you want a mic with your monitor?? It's probably crappy anyway, and I don't think it would be a selling point. Get one attached to your headset or get the Zalman clip-on mic, that one works really well and it's only about $10-$15.

Hardly, the difference between 16:9 and 16:10 is so slight you can barley tell if the image has been stretched, and the black bars are so small.

So how is it really, does it support 1080p?

Im 50/50 on those monitors now, Benq is 24" and has better res, but the Asus seems to have better the rest+it comes with the mic. I'd so like to hear a comment from an expert of these things. :)

Hardly what? Circles aren't circles anymore, which is fairly obvious to me, since pretty much every game has a circular radar. I know the black bars are so small, that's why I'm saying it's better if you have a monitor that shows black bars and retains the proper aspect ratio of the image.
