players in FIFA are stiff. In PES, it feels like you are actually controlling the player, defending and attacking are balanced in PES, so I can actually perfectly time my tackles, or lead the winger to the side instead of the middle. Through passes in FIFA are a joke. A big joke. Stupidest goalies ever in FIFA. You can't interact with your wall like you can in PES (10 man wall!), advantage in FIFA is implemented horribly (if someone tackles you, and advantage goes on, that guy won't get a card), trick stick is way too powerful in FIFA

I still can't stop laughing at FIFA 06 and 07. In 06, no matter what, a defender would always get the ball if you were running down the line. In 07 they fixed that by making the attacker getting past the defender all the time if they were running down the line.

Shooting was also way too easy.

Advantage was finally implemented in 07. That sucks.

O ya, you can dive in PES too, but its hard for it to work properly.

Quick free quicks in PES, expect another 3 years for FIFA to have that

In PES players act like robots running around. I recently played the FIFA 09 demo and it is 100% better than PES.

Besides PS official mag gave FIFA 09 9/10. heres the link

thats a great comeback! They run around liek robots! Why can't FIFA fans defend their own game properly?! If you didn't notice the AI in PES is better than FIFA. I already included that review as well. Have you never played FIFA before? When I first played PES I found it so weird because the players weren't stiff. Not only that, 08 is the first FIFA game to to finally implement ball physics. In the other games, the ball would act weirdly because the ball didn't have its own physics, it would stick to the players. PES is stiff and FIFA isnt? LOL

pes fanboy much?

everybody is a fanboy but to different degrees. I used to actually be a FIFA fanboy. From 2004-2008. 2008 was my first PES game.

But ya, everybody is a fanboy. You buy one product over another because you prefer it over the other. Some just express their self differently.

I hate FIFA. I started football gaming with Fifa 01, which I enjoyed all the way to Fifa 03, but when I played 02 I haven't looked back.

I got Pes 6 and rented 07, Fifa 07 was played for about 15 minutes before I put it back into it's sleeve and played the real football game. Fifa have the licences and graphics, but they fall short to Pes each year where it matters most - gameplay.

I don't post here but I felt I had to give my opinion. I was a PES/WE fanboy until last year. It was the worst PES ever! but I still thought it was better than fifa '08 ( I didn't play 07). I got the chance to get fifa 08 for free at one time and I got it. I started playing more and more, and getting used to the controls, and at the end that was what my friends and I ended playing. It played a more realistic football to me at least. Yes the players were a pain in the a$$ to control, it was frustraring. I bought the euro 08 game and it was a lot better than fifa 08, and a lot better than pes2008, so my expectations for fifa 09 were pretty high.

So, I got the fifa 09 demo and it is truly a great football game, none of the things you're saying about fifa happen in 09, so stop saying things that happenned in 06, 07 ,etc without playing 09 first. Even the psm3 reviewer said that fifa 09 is the one that plays the most realistic, even though it's not that fun as pes2009 to him.

I'm honestly looking forward to both since the only games I play all year are football games and nba 2k. So if they're both good, that's a good plus to me since I'll have two footie games to play.

I'll be getting FIFA 09 for the graphics, licensed teams, and smoother online play. A plus for PES2009 is that I think that they will be getting trophies and i dont think FIFA will be.

fifa has always tried to improve and add new features and understandably given the short development period some of the features dont always work perfectly straight away but one thing for certain is that fifa is ALWAYS improving, on an already solid base, but with pes every year the game is EXACTLY the arcade style game that looks its come straight out of an arcade from the 90s , yet the pes fanboys always insist that the gameplay is better in pes because of litle gimmicks like a "10 man wall!" or the ability to dive, which is the most pointless "features" i have heard of. the main thing for me in a football game is immersiveness if i can believe that i am watching a footall game on tv and im in control of the game then it is half way there, i do agree that pes is a fun game to play but it is time they used that core gameplay properly and made a game that is presented acceptably, until they greatly improve the graphics, commentary, menus, features, online etc fifa will be the game to beat.

After the big disappointment I went through with PES 2008 I was really going after FIFA this time. But recently after watching videos about PES and FIFA I think I will put my trust again in Seabass. Any disappointments and it will be the last time.

I loved PES more than Fifa for along time but now i am just sick of not having the real kits and licensing of names etc.... the fact you cant compete in the premier league, instead you have to create it your self. Dont get me wrong the gameplay is beeter on PES but Fifa is not that far behind. Its a small sacrifice to make for all the licensing etc... therefore i will be buying Fifa this year again.

Also i love the fact you can control your players celebration! :)

Couldn't agree more. PES has flopped big time. Stupid things like only being able to pass to one particular defender from goal kick (short pass), wooden play, no licenses (Konami have the money to bid for this), constantly improving things that don't need improving and not concentrating on things that do, A.I bugs etc... This year I went for Fifa after playing both demos. I actually played the PES demo for 10 minutes before deleting it off my PS3 and going straight back to the FIFA demo.

If you look at the forums theres arunning theme that formebr PES fans like myself have switched to Fifa...that alone speaks volumes - you only switch brands when either motivated by price or quality - the prevailing factor here being quality - PES has let itself down and as GS review said - needs a complete revamp

Yeah i was a die hard fan of PES up until 2007, PES lost its quality and i was getting bored with the usual let downs (lack of licensing, crap music, bad commentary, no official leagues or tournaments). Fifa is back like its 1999!

Sorry but that's wrong - the through passes in FIFA '09 are AMAZING, you seem to have complete control of where it goes, playing a ball over the top for the striker to run on to on the half volley is so much fun. And the goalies in FIFA '09 are decent, not the best (they sometimes hesitate to collect the ball even when you're mashing triangle) but they are ok. PES '09 on the other hand, the keepers haven't changed AT ALL. They still spill shots if you hit them hard enough, still allowing u to score cheap goals off the rebound against friends or the computer.

I was always a FIFA fan until 2000/2001 when a friend at university suggested i try PES 2 - and I haven't gone back since....untill now. FIFA is by far the most polished product - and i don't mean presentation menu's and music but on the pitch. Ok, so the players look a little zombie-ish but the animations are great, the goal celebration control is a nice touch, the though balls are great as I said, the chants are fantastic and so varied to represent every team (the crowd chants in PES '09 are piss weak).

What I'm saying is that FIFA is the next gen footaball game that we all deserve! PES '09 (and as a series) as much as I love it, is still essentially a PS2 game. The animations have barely changed since PS2 days and the graphics are dire compared to FIFA '09 - all they're got right recently is the (big) player likeness. Even the stats for key players like Crouch and Walcott are the same as last year (!) and don't reflect their real life performances. And worst of all, the player rosters are hopelessly out of date - Shevchenko still @ Chelsea?? Come on Konami, that wasn't even a deadline day deal!!

I feel let down by Konami - PES sells 7million + EVERY SINGLE YEAR and there seems to be no real improvement. The gameplay will always flow, but I just feel like a bit of a mug for following PES so blindly for the last 7 years or so.

This year was an experiment - I got both FIFA and PES for the first time ever! But next year, i won't be buying either on release day and it'll be a hard choice (hopefully) to decide which way my £40 should go...

every time PES 09 receives a score above 80,, you can be sure there's something fishy going on... either the reviewer is a diehard and stubborn PES fanboy or there's some kind of backstage bribery (like IGN giving PES 08, an atrocity an AAA score,,, and then you realize IGN sponsors the game). Im not saying PES 09 is a bad game, its better than 08. But they just basically took 2 steps back and used the gameplay from 07 version, whereas FIFA has evolved into the best footy game ever.

Its makes me laugh when i hear blind PES fanboys claim their game is for real footballers, and is the true simulation. Last time i checked, real footballers didnt just run on rails, with no diagonal movement (the D-pad is STILL PES main control scheme).

I played the PES series for PS2 era and loved every minute of it, FIFA then was garbage. this gen, FIFA started well with 08, and in 09 made a near perfect representation of footy. GS got it right, 7.5 for PES, 8.5 for FIFA.
