I enjoy my RPGS and well my little PSP is more or less my RPG buddy. Now I was reading up on Phantasy Star and Star Ocean and both seem quite good. There isnt a review of PS on here for me to have a look at. I can afford both but really I want to consintrate on just one. I want a little break from Disgaea which I really enjoyed.

Soi'd like to see what people think of the Star Ocean or Phantsay Star PSP games. Or even any other RPGs which dont seem to be that well known. Basically anything other than FF.

Have you went to Game Rankings? They collect reviews from legitimate review sites all over the web and compile them together to produce aggregate rankings. Currently, Phantasy Star Portable isn't doing too well critically at 69.43%.

I was thinking about picking up PSP some day, and I alrady have Star Ocean: First Departure (although it's still sealed...bought too many games last month).

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, Kingdom of Paradise, Monster Hunter series, etc. There's numerous RPGs available for the PSP, and a number of threads already started about them. I'll leave you to look them up instead of repeating.

I've played Valkyrie and Monster Hunter. I was just interested in the PS & SO I couldnt see any topics regarding these games. Perhaps they aren't as popular as some.

I havent gotten around to play either of them but judging by reviews, public response, and gameplay videos, I'd go with Star Ocean.

Also another gem with gameplay like Disgaea is Jeanne D'Arc, but youve probably already played that.

Thanks for your input people. I have been have a look for reviews and Star Ocean is getting a better responce. I will evenutally get both games but I think for now Star Ocean wins plus its got a fiver off the 2nd game in Gamestation. :D But from what I see the 2nd game is getting a better write up than the first. Is it very story driven as in the you wont understand the plot if you havent played the first one?

I've played both and I like Phantasy Star better... Call me a freak, but I think it's a lot of fun. It has its' annoying bits sure, but they're not all that common. One thing that might bug you in PS is the dialogue, which is all in cutouts with different facial expressions.

Just rep'ing the other side of this too. I wish GS would review that game, it's dumb that they refuse to.

Aside from a couple of minor connections, the two games both have stand-alone stories. Both Star Oceans are great IMO but Second Evolution is my favourite. I enjoyed the story and characters more in that game than in First Departure.

I picked up Second Evolution yesterday not had a chance to play it yet. I had a look for PS aswell but they didnt seem to have it which helped my decision a wee bit more. I'll give Second Evolution a go tonight. Also does anyone know why GS havent reviewed the new PS?

Great choice. Enjoy!

And they usually take their time when reviewing PSP games because its not in such a high demand like the 360 and DS reviews.

I've played them all and finished SO First Departure. It's a great game since it's a remake from SNES ver so the graphic is improved a lil bit. Somehow, the 2nd game doesn't really have an improvement from the previous PSX ver...maybe some extra dungeon and stuff (since I haven't time to finish it yet). But yes, I do like Star Oceans better than Phantasy Star...doesn't mean that I hate it...I own the game too but still played it a couple hours...^^
