Not as one of those services which cleans dog refuse from your yard, but close... Are you one of those gamers who buys cruddy games when they get dirt-cheap? Like, that copy of "Lair", or "Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire", for the sake of occasionally playing a bad game on purpose? And if so, which ones have you bought? And did you enjoy them, even though reviewers and the rest of the gaming community would tell you it's impossible?

For instance, I got "MSG: Crossfire" for $5 recently having seen reviews and knowing damn-well it's a "bad" game, and I played it for over an hour last night having a blast with the clunky controls (which, to me, conveyed a sense of controling a large mech, honestly, and I got used to it and even enjoyed it).

Relate your lame-game stories!

I got myself Red Ninja for roughly $3 last year. And I absolutely didn't enjoy it. Just like the reviews predicted.

OooooooO, Nice One!

Really only played that one for five minutes? It looks like a high-res "Ultimate Destruction"... Too bad it's not one, I s'pose... I have the first "Iron Man" game, it's a stinker, but flying in the suit in the early stages is a LOT of fun. They really got a tremendous amount of things correct in the feeling of flight for that game. It's fun for awhile.

;)

As for the Duke, well... I say if you can't find beauty in a poopie taken from the bowl and thrown around, then you just have no sense of a good time... I'd like to jam through it, sometime, just to say I did it... Like climbing Mt. Everest, but with caca jokes.

Up until recently, yes. Right now, no - probably not. I have to stop dedicating time to crap games when I have games like Demon's Souls and Vanquish that I haven't even started yet. Recently I got Rage, Bulletstorm, and Duke Nukem Forever for $5 each. Now that I've finished them all, that will probably be my last "wave" of those types of games on PS3. At least for awhile.

No, not usually. Only when a couple of friends and I decide to have what we call a "s***ty game day" do I ever purchase really terrible titles, and if I do I won't spend more than $10 on one.

I do buy bad games from time to time I got Mindjack about 5 months after it's release for £1.98 which I have to say I thought it wasn't too bad but if I did pay full price for the game it would be a different story. Mindjack it's glitchy and the A.I is awful and it's slow because it always asks you if you want to continue and the amount of load times is annoying. However I was shocked that people were still playing online 5 months after release I'm guessing it was because people got it that cheap.

The thing is if I see a game cheap I usually end up buying it as I do like to have my own opinion on games it's like some of the high rated games I've played them and I didn't enjoy them. I've played some games which have been rated as bad titles but I've enjoyed them.

I never buy a game thinking it will be bad, but I've certainly bought games that got lousy reviews because they looked interesting to me.

Nier - got a 5 from Gamespot, I gave it a 9. Fun gameplay, awesome theme music, fantastic characters and some of the most emotional endings (4 of them) I've ever seen in a game.

Dark Void - got a 6.5 from Gamespot, I gave it a 9. The jetpack, once you mastered it, made the game tremendously fun. A shooter where you can fly around was an absolute blast to play. The variety of environments and different types of gameplay was fantastic.

I've played plenty of games that got a 9.0 - 9.5 from Gamespot and after a couple hours, they just ended up back on the shelf never to be looked at again. I've got my own taste in games.

I'd hardly call Bulletstorm crap and would regard it as easily one of the better FPS games of last year. From what I hear, Rage, although it does have some issues, also wouldn't be regarded as crap...Duke Nukem, yeah I can agree with that one and no, I'd never be interested in playing it.

On topic, I don't buy crap games, mainly because they're crap and there's always something better to do than play a crap game, be it playing a good game or living, you know...life. I will however buy cheap games and there's obviously (not to everyone, evidently) a major difference there. I've recently picked up both the aforementioned Bulletstorm and Resistance 3 on the cheap and will likely pick up Vanquish and Castlevania for less than a tenner imminantly.

I found Bulletstorm to be pretty much crap. I don't care what reviews say. A gimmicky scorekeeping/skillshot methodology thrown into a generic, extremely short, crap FPS doesn't make it anything but a generic FPS. The gap between Duke Nukem and Bulletstorm isn't what reviewers say - if DNF is a 3.5/10, then Bullestorm shoudl have been a 5.0/10 IMO.

Rage I think was the best game of these three "deep discounted" titles. At least it had some ambition to almost be an open world/RPG type game. But it still fell short. The technical issues weren't bad, however as with the other games - it had a slightly generic feel to it (like a hybrid of Fallout and Borderlands) - yet the game world paled in comparison to those others. I would still give it about a 6.5 or 7.0/10 though because it still delivers more than the run of the mill linear shooter.

I would call "Bulletstorm" a great big steamy pile, but it's a pile. Foul Language and "skill shot" gimmicks don't cover how paper thin that game is.

There's something awesome about playing a game you know is way off the beaten path of popularity... I agree that there's little enough time in the world for gaming, but I just love getting through a game you know not a lot of others have done...

... I would definitely say "Where the Wild Things Are" rates.

:)

what was playing it like?

I tried Naughty Bear Gold Edition because the workers at my Gamestop (who are also very good friends of mine) told me I must play it just to experience a bad game....My PS3 was never the same after that summer day :(

Are you serious? I would give Lair 9/10 for it's great flying controls and the awesome environments, not to mention it's graphics which were quite good at that time. The only bad thing was the camera which would become annoying sometimes. I quite enjoyed it and didn't expect to be so great at all.

The only game I bought because it was cheap was Backbreaker. I played the demo when it came out, and enjoyed it. Then I bought it on ebay for like 12 bucks, and I hated it. I don't know what happened, but the game was terrible. I don't buy games just to buy games. I buy them because I want them, price doesn't matter.

Speaking to the converted, m'friend. Being a flying game freak, I owns me a copy!

;)

UuuuuunFORTUNATELY, the rest of the gaming world registers it as a steamy pile. And that's what this thread is all about, loving somewhat busticated titles... I like them $5-$10 finds... Games like "LAIR", where you are told one thing, and perhaps find another... Or exactly what others warned about PLUS... Either way, it can be a fun, funny experience.

Did you finish "LAIR"? I haven't... Got a little ways into it, though. ANd I agree, there's plenty to admire about the game.

I am a huge trophy whore. Just not a very good one hence the reason I picked up this pile of steaming turd! I can't bring myself to actually play it though as I know I'll feel cheap and nasty afterwards. My 2 platinums were hard won. I don't want to taint them :D

NIER surprised me. First few hours were boring but when it picked up I couldn't stop playing.

Armored Core V got low scores as well but it may just be my new favorite game on PS3 rigt now.

Yes, I finished the game and I also unlocked that flying car. Try completing it you will love the game if you like flying games, specially if the game makes full use of Sixaxis.
