No, you can really do it!
Stand close to the object you want to pick up, hold L2.
L2 is the grab button. But because you don't extend your arms out and grab it, it looks like a telekinetic effect. It's really only useful to position objects. e.g. the bucket in the same room as Umbra if you're thinking of jumping to the column and hacking her to pieces with a Claymore instead of fighting her honestly :PÂ
