Approximately a month ago, I was one happy fella. I was sitting at home, watching National Geograpic's 'Amazing Planet' on blue-ray on 1080i when all of a sudden the image froze. I rebooted everything and still nothing. I thought the disk could be damaged and that would be a shame. Things only got uglier when my PS3 didn't read any disk at all, CDs, DVDs or games could no longer be run on my playstation.
Of course, I went to the local toyshop where I bought the system in the first place. I still had the guarantee certificate so I didn't worry about it. I figured it would take maybe one week to find myself playing again.
Unfortunately this wasn't the case. They said it would take them 2 to 3 weeks to have Sony repair it and send it back to them. It's not that long but I still disliked the idea of not being able to play for 2 1/2 weeks.
Like I mentioned in the beginning of my story, it's already a month ago now and they still have not recieved my ps3 back from Sony. I've called them last week only to hear that it would be saterday or maybe monday before they would get it back. Today's tuesday and still no PS3.

Lame.

Go and complain the hell out of the store you got it from. Make a big ruckus saying things like this is stupid, you guys are way over the due date and that you didn't pay for the guarantee to be treated like this. They will give you something for free :D

You should also phone a local radio station or something they're bound to have some kind of phone in show where people can complain about how they've been mis-treated they nearly all ways do.

I remember my dad years ago had a problem with a food processor and took it back to the electrical store where he bought it. To cut a long story short they had to send it back 3 times to be repaired!!! He finaly gave up went to the local radio station and the local newspaper and told them what had happened to him. He not only got a new food processor he also got a full refund and a gift voucher from the manufacturer.

These guys just hate bad press.

I suppose I could bring something like that up, but I don't think it's their fault but more Sony's...

That's a pretty big assumption. Are you certain they sent your PS3 for repair the same day or day after? Heck, they might have set it aside and didn't get around to until two weeks after you dropped it off. Why didn't you just send it in yourself?

What shop was this where they sent your PS3 out without giving you a new one on the spot?? You yourself could have done the same thing in less time by phoning Sony if you were still under a year.

I've worked in retail for nearly 20 years now. The one thing that consumers never seem to understand is that their contract is with the reatailer and not with the manufacturer. It maybe Sony's "fault" but your retailer IMO doesn't seem to be doing anything on your behalf when they should be. You shoud as metioned above go in every single day to see the store manager and complain to him/her personally.

Watch how qucikly they get fed up with seeing you and in turn how quickly they get onto Sony to get rid of you. REMEMBER YOU'VE DONE NOTHING WRONG AND AT THE MOMENT YOU'RE BEING TREATED IN A VERY UNFAIR MANNER.

Well this is the deal updated to just 15 minutes ago.

- The store I bought my PS3 is called 'Intertoys' it is a Dutch toys store (I don't know if it's also international and that is not really relevant).

- My dad happens to know the owner, they played on the same soccer team for 15 years when they were still young and full of life (now they have become managers of a toy-store or have other boring jobs. This is also not relevant.). So we went together and talked to him in person from the beginning. This was on a monday, they could only send my ps3 to sony on a friday since that is the day when trucks come to do these kind of things.

- As I mentioned before, it would take them about 2-3 weeks. After 3 weeks and 1 day I called them, they asked to wait another week so I did, still nothing

- Just 15 minutes ago my dad all of a sudden reminded to have spoken to the manager on the phone just today (I, of course, did not understand why he would take so long to come up with it only now! It's 11:05 PM right now..). He was told that the Dutch section of Sony have been having serious problems with their stock, so they could not just give me a new blu-ray laser. His response was 'is that our fault?'. No it's not, said the manager. Then he promised that the next ps3 that entered the Intertoys' building would immediately go to us. Which is good but they don't expect a new shipment until the end of this week / half the way next week.

By the way, good English for a Dutch 16-year old right!

hmmm 1) Why would you return it to the store if you have to wait for them to get the replacement from Sony? Only reason to have a store warranty is immediate replacement / quick fix

2) Why didn't you send it straight to Sony......???

The warranty said it was a purchase from the shop, so I thought it would be their responsibility not Sony's

Did you send it to the store or go straight to Sony? When mine did that all I did was call Sony and they gave me a new one in a little over a week. You shouldn't trust store warranties too much. I've been screwed a couple of times with those... Just a waste of money.
