Planet Earth is a incredible experience. Everything looks so beautiful on my 42' plasma at 720p so I say play it at 720p. 1080i looks the same but i just hve my ps3 set to 720p.
who actually owns it? when did it come out i just went blu ray browsing today and picked up resevoir dogs and the host
thx to the last guy for posting that was good info thx
well wtf now Ive been told 1080i then 720p if i am in fact going to buy this expensive thing then i wanna watch it as best i can 1080i or 720p ahhhh, and finally its a consensus pick that i should buy it? FF-resevil-halo
The general consensus is that it is best to output the video at the native resolution of your display. You say that your display is both 1080i and 720p. If you have a Blu-Ray disc in your posession then you should be able to answer the question for yourself by simply changing the resolution that the PS3 outputs. Which resolution looks better to you?
Buy it, 1080i because I think all Blu Rays only show at 1080i or 1080p. And get it off amazon because its cheaper. Don't get the American version with Sigourney weaver. She can't narrate. DaAzNJRiCh
All Blu-Ray discs are encoded at 1080p. In the case of the OP, what they are displayed at is totally dependent on what the player is set to output.

doesn't the PS3 downscale to 720P now?

I would recommend renting it, especially if you have never seen it. If you can't find the Blu-Ray version, then rent the regular DVD. I have seen it on both Discovery HD Theater and Blu-Ray. It is really quite an amazing achievement. If you enjoy nature documentaries you will really enjoy this one. Be warned that it is not filmed entirely in HD, and those segments, while not frequent, do stand out.
If you especially like animals and enviroments filmed in mind blowing ways. Then sure. Though many people have hyped the video quality to be really good. It's not perfect. There are a noticable amount of scenes that have grain.... Otherwise the video qualit is top notch...munu9
Nothing is perfect and it says on the back not every scene was shot with an HD camera.
why go for a hike in my home home province of BC when i can just sit around and watch it without getting attacked! yesssFF-resevil-halo
yeah i live in BC to:)
and yeah wut would be better to watch it in 720p and 1080i?

I know but I swear it was at least 50 minutes of it. Which, while it isn't a large portion of the total video, is a very annoying amount to have to see basically every half hour just when you were getting use to how good the video actually was...
I think there is one section about protecting the earth (haven't gotten there yet) but yeah the regular episodes are just about the earth.[QUOTE="FF-resevil-halo"]how much mention of global warming is there?jdang307
Amazing series.
What disc? 1,2,3,4?It's out in the US before here... The BBC have always been a bunch of idiots.DanC1989Where is "here" for you? Not the UK is it? Since they were showing this stuff over there a long time before over here in the US.
And thank god we don't have to listen to Sigourney Weaver on the Blu-ray (which you do on Discovery). I don't know why, but documentaries such as these (nature, wildlife etc.) don't sound right unless there is a british accent narrating them lol.

What disc? 1,2,3,4? Hmm it appears I may be mistaken. I kept seeing htem on discovery channel so I assumed they were on the disk. Apparently these are new episodes in addition to the original 11, called "Planet Earth: The Future" you can read more about them here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet_Earth_(TV_series)
