I have both, never played the first. Will it ruin the experience if I play II first? Might sound like a silly question but I hear II is better and I want to get stuck in!!! :)
Would I be missing out on a massive storyline or something? Thanks.

I'd say go ahead and play AC II. Assassins creed I is very boring, and you could just read the story online.
Trash? Really? I've seen some bad reviews, but some good ones too?!?!?!!? Aaaaggghhhhh I dunno what to do!!!!! Borrowed it from my cousin, played it disliked it from the begining. But then i said to my self "mayb im justing hating on it" so i said ok let me give it another go. I was bored out my mind after 3 hours...[QUOTE="Javieralijandro"]I woudnt play a sequel without playing the first but... Assassan's creed 1 is trash. I wont buy 2 because 1 was trash.stack1109

Assassin's Creed 1 is one of my most favourite games, no matter what anyone (this guy) says, and you should play it before Assassin's Creed 2 because the order always matters. And in this case, the order means the entire secret behind the Assassins, Templars, and the Fruit. As well as why Desmond is where he is.
Well since you already have AC1 and you're going to play it at some point, then yes, play AC1 before AC2. Why? Because AC1 sucks and AC2 is amazing, so if you started with AC2, you'd end on a sour note and AC1 would seem completely unplayable. If you start with AC1, then you'll get an appreciation for the massive improvement. AC1's story is not necessary to appreciate AC2, though it does enhance it. You don't need to finish AC1 to get the enhancement effect. Just familiarising yourself with the characters and conflicts from AC1 by playing a bit of it is enough since AC2 goes over the important part from the end of Altair's life flashback, and the actual end of the game for AC1 is irrelevant to AC2. If you want to play AC1 to completion then take this advice: don't bother doing more of the mini-missions to unlock the assassination mission then you need to. It does NOT make it easier or help you and it does NOT explain more plot points. It's just a waste of time. So just do the two or three mini-missions needed to unlock the assassination mission and don't waste time trying to do everything. It's very unrewarding to finish everything in each town and saving citizens is incredibly useless. So just speed through it so you can get to AC2.I have both, never played the first. agreed...if AC1 is trash then AC2 wouldnt be too good either... they have same the mechanics...pretty much same gameplay.
some kids just like to laugh at something they dotn have so it makes themselves feel better.
Yes, I would highly recommend it. Basically, there are two story lines, one major (Ezio's), and one minor (Desmond's). To understand Ezio's, you don't need to play AC2, although there are plenty of references to the protagonist from AC1 and other stuff from AC1. To understand Desmond's, you must play AC1.
Get it on the $15 rack or rent it and play part of it. Or read the spoilers for free online if nothing else. But you must play AC2.
If you play the second first, you will NEVER be able to play through the first.
Also, in the second, the first 5 minutes sums up pretty much all of the first game. AC I is worth playing for the ending alone though.
I definitely recommend playing the first game first, even though it's the same thing over and over and over again.

Believe it or not, but there ARE actually people there who played both games and thought the first was worse. In fact, nearly everyone. The mechanics may be the same, sure. Ya you're climbing around and stabbing people, but that's not the issue with the first game. Here's how it changed:
1) the dialogue isn't repetitive - in AC1, the fight trainer said the same thing each time you left the castle, the villagers said the same things when you saved them
2) the main quest is completely separate and what were previously required to access main quest events (beat up missions, mini-assassination missions) are now completely relegated to optional status. They're just for money-grinding or little diversions. The main quest line is completely separate.
3) The main quest line is more fully fleshed out and has you doing a wider assortment of things than just "go here and kill".
4) The story-telling is vastly improved. It actually tells you the story actively instead of having to passively glean it from eavesdropping missions.
5) the scaffolding of the game is less visible. You don't see the repetitive structure so much because of how well fleshed out the story is and how they have eliminated the mini-missions as a requirement for accessing the main mission. In AC1, the formula was very visible. Go to this town. Find towers. Climb towers. Eavesdrop. Save citizens. Collect flags. Do assassination. Go to another town. Find towers. Climb towers. Eavesdrop. Save citizens. Collect flags. Go to another town... etc. Here, that's not the pattern at all. You do the main mission which could have you doing anything, not this repetitive cycle.
6) You can gallop or run all you like without guards getting suspicious and attacking.
7) There's a larger variety of things to do (like the assassin tombs and getting better armor and weapons) and far more depth to all aspects: fighting system, story, upgrade system, character development, etc.
So yes, believe it or not, it IS possible to dislike AC1 and like AC2 and have played them!

I think you mixed that up. To understand Ezio's story, you DO need to play AC2, but to understand Desmond's, you need to play AC 1.

I agree. What is wrong with Assassin's Creed 1? I think it's good! But AC2 is better though.

Trust me.. AC2 is so much better than AC1, get it.
Yes, you definetly should get AC1 because it is very informative for AC2. Maybe think about renting it and but AC2!!
Definitely do not need to play Ac1 first

I guess it all matters on your personality in the end. AC 2 is graphically, and gameplay wise what AC 1 should have been, but the story, the mystery, the whole essence of a campaign, is in AC 1 only. AC 2 is just a secondary story. The main ancestor, and Desmond, are both explained in the first story, which makes it vital. I personally do not care how bad or good the graphics are, or the freedom of a game. As long as it has a good story behind it, with some good gameplay (AC 1 went above and beyond what I consider an Excellent performance [110%]), I will buy it, and play it. Oh yea, the achievements matter too. I will not play a game that has a ridiculously hard, single, achievement, which will keep me from my "complete game" status.
This is easy. If you got the 1st one already, than beat it... if you said that you'd have to buy the 1st then I'd put more thought into it, but no...
I didn't like the 1st either but it'll help you appreciate AC2 much more. Also, knowing the protagonist of AC1(Altair) aswell as some other characters would make the story of AC2 that much more interesting and intriguing. That said, not everyone hates AC1 either. Don't go out of your way to do anything unnecessary in the game, just do the necessary things and get it out of the way. By the end of it you'll be able to play AC2 and it wouldn't beguilty pleasure and you wouldn't need to open up wikipedia once in a while...
That's my opinion.
Since you own both, play AC1 followed by 2. I have yet to plat 2 but AC1 was 'meh'. I loved the controls, and the actual free running gameplay was really enjoyable. But most of the missions were weak and recycled several times during the game. The story was fine, but its not told all that well.I have both, never played the first. Will it ruin the experience if I play II first? Might sound like a silly question but I hear II is better and I want to get stuck in!!! :)

Skip ACI. Everything I hated about it is fixed and ACII is a MUCH better game. Not knowing the previous story won't hinder you - at least it hasn't me in the first several hours of the game.

Some games where they have sequals you can get away with not playing the first game, but I wouldn't reccomend it for Assassin's Creed, because the story in the game is actually very dense and very important.
Play the first one before the second one, otherwise you'll be really confused with the story.uyiop0t
Two very nice and opposing view points. I guess this is the decision that the threadmaker has to make, go with the first person, or the second. =P
