Playing .avi files on PS3

I regularly download shows to watch on my PC, but recently I haven't been able to watch them so I have been transfering them onto USB stick to take away and watch on my PS3.

Problem is my PS3 says the file type isn't supported.

I thought a former software update allowed .avi files to be played on PS3.

Or am I doing something wrong?

I thought it supported XviD. Whatever. Make sure your .avi files are compressed in DivX (not XviD as well?).

Also wait, how are you downloading these shows?... :| ...Noooot good....
