Hello, does the PS3 play PS1 games as well? (i'm talking about the good models that play PS2). I'm especially concerned about my Final Fantasy Games :)

The 40gb DOES play PSONE games. The PS3 has always used pure software emulation for PSONE games. How else do you expect sony to sell ps1 titles off the PSN?

It's one thing to be ignorant about this stuff, but claiming things you don't really know as facts is a whole 'nother story...

Found this question to be helpful and glad that we have so many choices on some older great games.

What the heck are you talking about? PS3 uses software emulation for PS1. Always has. Ever notice how playing a PS1 game you don't have to resync the controller?

I was referring to the people who said it didn't play PS1 games. Quoting you kinda made it confusing though...

I think PS2 backwards compatibility will eventually come to the 40 GB PS3. I'm sure Sony's plan all along was to go full software BC on the PS3. It just wasn't ready yet, but they wanted to get as cheap a PS3 out for this holiday. I think by the end of 2008, a firmware update will enable existing 40 GB PS3s to play PS2 games.

I'm not willing to bet any money on this. It's just what I think. :) I've got the 60 GB PS3. So, I'm good either way.

They actually don't support BC on that console to try and increase PS3 software sales. ;)

That does not say much - European PS3's always used software Emulation for PS2 games as well, and in the 40 GB model they disabled that, so they might as well have disabled the PS1 emulation - that was my question :) (Well, i'm not interested in the 40 GB Model anyway as i want to play PS2 games as well, but still: Software vs. Hardware Emulation is not a question, as Sony dropped hardware emulation on all newer models anyway).
