Some might think this is a stupid qustion, but I'm notvery clued up onthe PlayStation 3 or Blu-Ray players. I am aware that most, or at least a lot of BR discs are "region free", but my question is in regards to the hardware. I live in South Africa, and we get our hardware from Europe. So, for examlpe, a PlayStation 2 is a PAL system, and only Region 2 DVD's are playable. My question is, is the same applicable to a PlayStation 3? Is the system restricted to PAL or NTSC, depending on where it comes from? Or is PAL/NTSC irrelevent with Blu-Ray Discs? So if I import a Blu-Ray from the US, will I be able to play it on my European PlayStation 3? When I eventually buy it that is...

PS3 games are region free

Everything else like PS1 games , DVD's, and Blue Ray are not region free.

Yeah, you can import PS3 games from all over the world, including the US, but movies and PS2 and PS1 games are bound to the PAL region or region 2. I have bought a couple of games from the US and they have worked just fine on my PAL PS3.

70% of Blu-rays are not region locked. Just google a list and that'll tell you what movies are region locked and which aren't.

That's one of the great things about the PS3, is the fact that it gives you wayyy more options than other consoles. I will give Sony that much. You really don't have to worry about games and movies not working from other regions for the most part. kudos to Sony for thinking on that one.
