Playstation 3 Console - Different Colors?

I remember some time before the system was launched, I saw an article on the net which confirmed the availability of different colors for the PS3 in Japan - colors like red, blue, yellow etc.

The only colors I have come across are black, ceramic white, silver and the Gunmetal MGS4 special.

What ever happened to those other colors?

And why haven't they released different colors here in North America?

The PS2 is available in black, white and silver where I live, but those were not available right away. That took years.

They do have the other colours, they're just not available for purchase all at the same time.
They'll usually come in bundles of games. These things ARE exclusive to japan though,
but checkout hte Yakuza Skin for the PS3, it's really cool.

The Yakuza 3 bundle PS3 is downright awesome. I should have bought when I saw it at Amazon the other day. It was normal price, now it's gone and the prices are exorbitant. Dang.

Anyway, I love the white PS3. It's awesome. I think a metallic red and yellow system would be hawt as well.

Yeah, I have come SO close to purchasing a white PS3. Several times I almost hit the Go to Checkout button haha. I have the money but then again, I wouldn't know what to do with a third PS3, and since these Japanese models have problems with NA DVDs, I wouldn't want to get rid of my other consoles as I do watch DVDs every once in a while.

I really wanted that silver one. It's woulda matched my PS2.
